Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage the university's digital fabrication lab to ensure safe, efficient, and innovative use of advanced technologies.
  • Enable students and faculty to experiment, prototype, and produce creative outputs using digital fabrication tools.
  • Guarantee accessibility, readiness, and compliance of the lab to support academic courses, research, and creative projects.
  • Promote a culture of innovation and interdisciplinary collaboration through the lab's resources.
  • Align lab activities with academic requirements, project timelines, and creative goals.
  • Contribute to long term planning for lab upgrades, expansions, and new technology integration.
  • Support sustainability initiatives through efficient material management and waste reduction.
  • Use feedback and performance reports to drive continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Manage day to day operations, ensuring equipment (3D printers, CNC routers, laser cutters, vinyl cutters, etc.) is fully functional and maintained.
  • Oversee safety standards, conduct audits, and enforce compliance in collaboration with FM and HSE teams.
  • Provide hands on training, inductions, and troubleshooting support to students and faculty.
  • Supervise calibration, servicing, and upgrades of digital fabrication technologies.
  • Lead a team of lab technicians and coordinate with vendors for equipment servicing, supplies, and specialized installations.
  • Oversee material inventory and safety gear in collaboration with the Inventory & Asset Manager.
  • Maintain documentation on usage, incidents, maintenance, and compliance for institutional reporting.
Skills Requirements
  • Strong leadership in managing lab technicians and coordinating with vendors.
  • Skilled in resource and procurement planning for materials and consumables.
  • Ability to design and enforce lab policies, safety procedures, and workflows.
  • Experience supporting academic programs and student led creative projects.
  • Excellent communication and training skills for faculty, students, and technical staff.
  • Strong organizational abilities with attention to detail in safety and compliance.
  • Problem solving skills in resolving technical and creative challenges.
  • Ability to mentor and support innovative and experimental student projects.
Qualifications
  • 10+ years of experience managing digital fabrication labs or advanced prototyping environments, preferably in academic or creative institutions.
  • Proven expertise with digital fabrication workflows and tools (3D printing, CNC, laser cutting, etc.).
