The College

Founded in 1972, Five Towns College (FTC) is a private, coeducational, non-sectarian institution of higher education. Located on a beautiful suburban campus in the hamlet of Dix Hills, Town of Huntington, Long Island, NY, the College is a creative community of artists and scholars who serve the cause of music, media, and the performing arts.


The College offers associate, bachelor, masters, and doctoral programs in nearly 30 areas of study. The most popular programs include contemporary music and music technology, music business/entertainment industry studies, film, mass communication and media studies, and theater arts.


Programs of study follow a traditional semester calendar, with two summer sessions.


Five Towns College holds an Absolute Charter issued by the New York State Board of Regents, and its programs of study are registered with the New York State Education Department. The College is regionally accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education.


Approximately 600 students are enrolled at the College, nearly all of whom pursue their program of study on a full-time basis. Approximately 200 students reside on campus in a modern Living/Learning Center.


The Positions

Five Towns College has a need for adjunct instructors to teach Interactive Media Arts courses (After Effects, Creative Coding, Comic Art, Storyboarding, Game Design and Development, Art History, and more — see below).


Classes are typically three lecture hours per week during days and/or evenings. Classes are held on the FTC’s campus in Dix Hills, NY.


Adjunct faculty are paid at the rate of $1,125 per credit which would be $3375 for a fully enrolled three-credit course.

Essential Functions

Ability to work with and teach a diverse student population. Must be able to communicate effectively with students, co-workers, supervisors and the campus community. Must be able to develop, prepare, and present information. Must be able to operate computers and must adjust any teaching to the Americans with Disabilities Act provisions. Must track attendance for every class meeting. Report on student learning outcomes at the end of the semester and maintain a grade book throughout the semester.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Teach up to 9 credits per semester
  • Develop and update course overviews, lesson plans, and instructional material.
  • Perform administrative tasks utilizing the college's learning management system (LMS) related to course management and submitting grades, using the student information system (SIS), and participating in departmental faculty meetings.
  • Stay current with industry trends and technologies in specific areas of expertise, integrating them into the curriculum.
  • Participate in faculty monthly meetings


Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in a related computer graphics or technology discipline strongly desired bachelor’s degree required.
  • Experience teaching in higher education and significant technical experience in a variety of areas in computer graphics (e.g., 3D animator, web application designer, interactive designer, motion graphics designer, etc.) is preferred.


Additional Qualifications for Position:

  • Extensive professional experience, with a keen eye for emerging technology
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Higher education teaching experience is preferred, but not required
  • Proficient with educational technology/LMS, preferably Canvas
  • Ability to work in a collaborative environment with a diverse community
  • Resides within Long Island, NYC regions.
