Job Purpose

The Proxy Product Owner (PPO) plays a pivotal role in driving the successful delivery of digital banking products and features within Mashreq Digital Bank Pakistan. Acting as the bridge between the Product Owner and the delivery squads, the PPO ensures that the product vision, business priorities, and customer value propositions are accurately translated into actionable requirements and delivered with excellence. The PPO collaborates closely with engineering, design, QA, and business stakeholders to refine the product backlog, clarify acceptance criteria, and support sprint planning and execution.

This role ensures alignment between strategic objectives set by the Product Owner and the tactical delivery led by agile teams enabling timely, high-quality, and customer-centric product releases. The PPO is also responsible for tracking progress against defined OKRs, managing dependencies, and ensuring that each increment delivers measurable value to both customers and the business.


Key Result Areas

Product Delivery & Execution

  • Translate the Product Owner’s vision and roadmap into well-defined user stories, epics, and acceptance criteria.
  • Own sprint execution and backlog prioritization to ensure timely delivery of product increments that meet business goals.
  • Collaborate with design, engineering, and QA teams to ensure product requirements are clearly understood and implemented with high quality.

Stakeholder Alignment & Communication

  • Act as the key liaison between the Product Owner, business stakeholders, and agile delivery teams.
  • Ensure alignment between product strategy, design intent, and technical execution.
  • Provide regular updates on delivery progress, risks, and mitigation plans to stakeholders and leadership.

Customer Value & Experience

  • Ensure all backlog items deliver clear value to customers and align with the bank’s digital CVP and regulatory requirements.
  • Work with UX and customer research teams to integrate customer feedback into continuous product improvement.
  • Support user acceptance testing (UAT) and post-launch reviews to validate customer impact.

Agile Process Management

  • Lead backlog refinement, sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives in collaboration with the Scrum Master.
  • Ensure proper documentation, grooming, and traceability of requirements.
  • Drive continuous improvement in delivery velocity and team efficiency.

Performance & Value Tracking

  • Define and monitor key product KPIs, ensuring alignment with strategic OKRs and business targets.
  • Analyze performance metrics, customer adoption, and feedback to inform backlog prioritization.
  • Support data-driven decision-making by highlighting insights from product analytics.

Compliance & Risk Management

  • Ensure all deliverables adhere to regulatory, Shariah (for Islamic products), and security standards.
  • Identify and escalate delivery risks early with mitigation recommendations.
  • Collaborate with risk, compliance, and control functions during product lifecycle stages.


Knowledge, Skills and Experience


  • At least 8+ years of technical project delivery experience
  • Minimum of 4 year of experience gathering requirements and translating into user requirements, data engineering, data science, or software engineering experience
  • Technical background in development or testing is a plus
  • Background in engineering, technology, or UX preferred
  • Experience as a Proxy Product Owner / Product Manager with software products
  • Strong knowledge of software development lifecycle
  • Experience in Agile methodologies
  • Strong negotiation and leadership skills
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills with a high degree of comfort in speaking with senior leaders
  • Must be a strong collaborator, team player, and individual contributor
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills
  • Demonstrated ability to think both strategically and tactically
  • Able to build a sense of trust and rapport that creates a comfortable & effective workplace
