Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Knowledge of assembly, fabrication, welding, welding equipment set up and operation for various processes, techniques, materials and related material characteristics.
  • Familiarity with assembly and fabrication practices.
  • Must be able to read and interpret routine welding and fabrication drawings; use and interpret measuring devices such as rule, scale, square, protractor; ability to use and understand fractional, decimal and metric measuring methods.
  • Knowledge of proper pre-heating procedures and the use of temp sticks as well as interpass temperatures.
  • Must be fully certified in AWS D1.1 1G Groove Test with backing strip and DIN 2F and 3F Break Test as well as 2G Horizontal Open Root Groove Test (Grove Test #65).
  • Must be able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
  • Must be able to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, fractions and decimals.
  • Must be able to read tape measure and blue prints.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Work from reports, drawings, specifications, shop orders, other data and information supplied.
  • Perform necessary welding practices in the flat and horizontal positions on structural and non-structural components to meet mechanical strengths required by the product on high strength materials.
  • Make necessary in position repairs on a full range of company products.
  • Remove and replace defective parts and/or repair weld discontinuities and defects in high strength materials.
  • Detect and report defective material, faulty operation, and unusual conditions to proper supervision and quality personnel.
  • Must demonstrate a high degree of cosmetic acceptability in all welding operations.
  • Maintain weld qualification by using the process at least once in a six month period.
  • Other duties as determined by supervision.

This position is located on the production shop floor, in multiple buildings. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use tools or controls. The employee is frequently required to stand, reach, climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Incumbent will work in a typical fabrication environment including the use of solvents, adhesives, hydraulic oil, petroleum products, etc. There is frequent lifting and/or moving of up to 50 pounds.

Education & Experience Requirements:

  • High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED) preferred.
  • Minimum 1 year welding experience preferred.
  • Certification in overhead crane operations
  • Certification in AWS D1.1 1G Groove Test with backing strip
  • Certification in DIN 2F and 3F Break Test; 2G Horizontal Open Root Groove Test (Grove Test #65)

Health & Safety Requirements:

  • Maintain departmental housekeeping and 5S standards.
  • Perform job functions in a safe manner.
  • Wear all Personal Protective Equipment (P.P.E.) required by Company Policy for the job being performed.
  • Know and follow established job specific and facility wide safety and health procedures and rules.
  • Actively participate in safety and health training and demonstrate competency based on training received.
  • Bring safety and health issues, unsafe acts, and safety suggestions to management’s attention or correct those you can.

Eye examination prior to being assigned to a welding position and periodic eye exams every three (3) years thereafter while in a welding position as part of the maintenance of qualification to perform welding.
