Job Summary:
Comprehensive oversight of strategic, operational & clinical leadership of Obstetrics & Perioperative Services. Ensures high quality, patient centered care while optimizing service line performance, fostering staff development & maintaining regulatory compliance. Ensures ongoing evaluation of improvement in performance through data analysis, benchmark comparison, & compliance with regulatory standards. Establishes & maintains productive & respectful working relationships with the medical staff, creating an organizational culture that is consistent with MMH principles.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Oversight, including Labor & Delivery, Post-partum & Nursery. Operating Room (OR), Preadmission Testing, Same Day Surgery, Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) & Central Sterile Processing departments.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Represents departments on committees & special projects.
- Determines appropriate measurement metrics to meet service line goals.
- Integrates organizational mission, vision, values, goals & strategies Leads direct reports & collaborates with other leaders & staff.
- Fosters team approach, clarity of purpose, united direction, creativity & focus on key initiatives.
- Facilitates communication between departments, units & physicians to eliminate silos & fragmentation.
- Coaches & develops others; evaluates direct reports.
- Build relationships with other service line leaders, medical staff, peers, team members & community partners.
- Understands market data & creates & implements plans to optimize facility, staff & resources.
- Collaborates with key stakeholders in strategic planning, market research & referral development.
- Accepts ownership & accountability for service line strategic objectives & profitability.
- Supports policy & procedure improvements, which will improve patient care & the operating effectiveness of assigned departments.
- Responsible & accountable for all activities related to the 24-hour clinical & administrative management of OB and OR departments
- Demonstrates effort to support & recognize all team members.
- Solicits feedback from customers & acts upon the results.
- Provides support to department managers, ensuring complete & satisfactory follow-up on all patient complaints including, but not limited to, immediate service recovery if needed at time of service, follow-up phone calls, etc.
- Embraces & supports customer service goals & standards.
- Serves as a role model in all aspects.
- Participates in community events & activities, particularly those related to inpatient services.
- Encourages every team member to be involved in at least one community event or activity involving MMH that is not a normal part of their job.

- Assists department managers with preparing annual operating & capital equipment budgets.
- Monitors compliance to approved budget and controls labor hours with volumes s for each service area.
- Take corrective action as necessary to maintain compliance for each service area.
- Manages premium hours appropriately based on volumes & budget.
- Demonstrates sound budgeting skills, which include the use of appropriate assumptions & data including, but not limited to, previous results, projected volumes, new services, & other departmental changes.
- Support process improvement efforts by actively engaging in improvement methodology.
- Ensures compliance with all accreditation requirements, JC, IDOH, & local, state, & federal licensing & operating requirements.
- Continuously monitors department operating systems, policies, procedures, & reviews them at a minimum annually or as needed for each service area.
- Supports & encourages ongoing training & education for all team members.
- Maintains professional growth attends conferences, seminars &/or participates in self-directed learning related to the job, with leader’s approval.
- Stays abreast of relevant industry issues through journals & related association memberships.
- Coordinates/conducts in-service/educational programs as needed for service areas.
- Attends 75% of management meetings & SLT/Director meetings
- Participate in a consistent, meaningful & value-added manner.
- Supports managers with hiring, training, development, disciplinary action & termination of all department team members.
- Initiates & maintains activities within department to create & improve a positive work environment.
- Take positive steps to control turnover within control & enhance retention.
- Develops strategies to improve the performance, effectiveness & morale of department team members, including but not limited to, bereavement support.
- Completes &/or oversees performance reviews on all team members according to the expected timeline, in collaboration with specific department managers/supervisors.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Effective communication skills, including public speaking, excellent writing, verbal, & presentation skills, as well as active listening & coaching skills.
- Ability to develop effective relationships with a community based medical staff, team members & community partners to meet strategic goals.
- Ability to develop, motivate & lead multidisciplinary teams to achieve measurable improvements in quality & innovation.
- Strong organizational skills, personal accountability, & initiative required.
- Word processing skills essential. Desktop publishing, spreadsheet & presentation software knowledge would be beneficial.
Education and Experience:
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing & Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing is required. A master’s degree in nursing or a health-related field is preferred.
- Licensed Registered Nurse in the state of Indiana.
- Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in nursing and/or health care management.
- At least three (3) years of experience in OB or perioperative services.
- Strong leadership and change management skills.
- Ability to adapt and lead in a rural, resource limited environment.
- Experience in rural or Critical Access Hospital Setting a plus.
Physical Requirements:
- Constant manual dexterity, use of hands & talking; frequent walking, standing & sitting.
- Occasionally may need to lift up to or transfer 20 lbs.
