Direct Care DSP | Part-Time Caregiver | Junction City, OR

About Empowered Services

Empowered Services provides individualized, one-on-one support in home and community settings for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Our Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) deliver dependable, person-centered care that promotes independence, supports emotional regulation, and encourages meaningful daily routines.

Position Overview

We are hiring a DSP / Caregiver to support an adult in a calm, low-demand environment with a balance of independent time and community outings. This role is ideal for someone who is patient, observant, and comfortable providing support without constant engagement - knowing when to step in and when to give space.

Schedule

  • Weekend: 1 full day (flexible timing)
  • Midweek: 1 additional day (flexible)
  • Opportunity for additional hours with another provider sharing the schedule

About the Individual

You will be supporting someone who:

  • Enjoys walking in stores and visiting parks
  • Likes music, pacing, and sensory regulation activities (fidgets)
  • Values personal space and quiet time, especially in his room
  • Benefits from a low-pressure environment with natural transitions between rest and activity
  • Has improved significantly in emotional regulation over the past year

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 in-home and community-based support
  • Assist with community outings (stores, parks, light activities)
  • Support emotional regulation through awareness and calm presence
  • Maintain a safe environment and respond appropriately if behaviors escalate
  • Respect independence while offering gentle guidance when needed
  • Support basic organization and daily living routines

Ideal Candidate

This position is a strong fit for someone who:

  • Is calm, patient, and non-directive in their approach
  • Understands the importance of giving space and avoiding over-socialization
  • Is comfortable with behavioral support and de-escalation techniques
  • Has experience (or interest) in:
    • Caregiving
    • DSP work
    • Behavioral health
    • Autism/IDD support
  • Is willing to complete OIS (behavioral safety) training

Important Considerations

  • The individual may become frustrated when unable to access preferred activities
  • Occasional physical behaviors (historically)—though reduced—mean:
    • Situational awareness is important
    • A steady, confident presence is key
  • Providers should be comfortable supporting someone who self-regulates through movement (walking/pacing)

Compensation & Benefits

  • $23–$25 per hour (based on experience and qualifications)
  • Paid training
  • Flexible schedule based upon the customer

Full-time employees (30+ hours/week) may be eligible for:

  • Medical, Dental, Vision Insurance
  • 401(k) with employer match
  • Paid Time Off (PTO)

Qualifications:

  • Must be 18 years or older
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Current auto insurance (meeting state requirements)
  • Ability to pass a background check (not all records are disqualifying)
  • Comfortable supporting personal care needs

Preferred:

  • Experience in caregiving, DSP, behavioral support, or IDD roles
  • Experience supporting individuals with I/DD
  • Strong communication and boundary-setting skills
  • CPR/First Aid certification

Why This Role Stands Out

  • Calm, low-demand environment (not constant activity)
  • Opportunity to build a genuine, respectful connection

  • Paid training provided
