Position Overview

We are seeking a thoughtful, patient, and highly communicative entry-level DSP / Caregiver to support a creative, self-employed individual who works in graphic design and video game development. This role is ideal for someone who understands the importance of clear communication, personal space, and pacing activities appropriately. The right provider will offer steady, respectful support while allowing the individual to maintain independence and creative flow.

Our Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) deliver dependable, person-centered care that promotes independence, supports emotional regulation, and encourages meaningful daily routines. 
Position Overview

We are hiring a DSP / Caregiver to support an adult in a calm, low-demand environment with a balance of independent time and community outings. This role is ideal for someone who is patient, observant, and comfortable providing support without constant engagement - knowing when to step in and when to give space. 
Schedule
<ul>
<li>Weekend: 1 full day (flexible timing)</li>
<li>Midweek: 1 additional day (flexible)</li>
<li>Opportunity for additional hours with another provider sharing the schedule</li></ul> 


About the Individual

You will be supporting someone who:

<li>Enjoys walking in stores and visiting parks</li>
<li>Likes music, pacing, and sensory regulation activities (fidgets)</li>
<li>Values personal space and quiet time, especially in his room</li>
<li>Benefits from a low-pressure environment with natural transitions between rest and activity</li>
<li>Has improved significantly in emotional regulation over the past year</li></ul> 


Key Responsibilities
<ul>
<li>Provide 1:1 in-home and community-based support</li>
<li>Assist with community outings (stores, parks, light activities)</li>
<li>Support emotional regulation through awareness and calm presence</li>
<li>Maintain a safe environment and respond appropriately if behaviors escalate</li>
<li>Respect independence while offering gentle guidance when needed</li>
<li>Support basic organization and daily living routines</li></ul> 


Ideal Candidate

This position is a strong fit for someone who:

<li>Is calm, patient, and non-directive in their approach</li>
<li>Understands the importance of giving space and avoiding over-socialization</li>
<li>Is comfortable with behavioral support and de-escalation techniques</li>
<li>Has experience (or interest) in:

<li>DSP work</li>
<li>Behavioral health</li>
<li>Autism/IDD support</li>
</ul></li><li>Is willing to complete OIS (behavioral safety) training</li></ul>

<li>The individual may become frustrated when unable to access preferred activities</li>
<li>Occasional physical behaviors (historically)&mdash;though reduced&mdash;mean:
<ul><li>Situational awareness is important</li>
<li>A steady, confident presence is key</li>
</ul></li><li>Providers should be comfortable supporting someone who self-regulates through movement (walking/pacing)</li></ul> 


Compensation &amp; Benefits

<li>$23&ndash;$25 per hour (based on experience and qualifications)</li>

Qualifications:
<ul>
<li>Must be 18 years or older</li>
<li>High school diploma or equivalent</li>
<li>Valid driver&rsquo;s license and reliable transportation</li>
<li>Current auto insurance (meeting state requirements)</li>
<li>Ability to pass a background check (not all records are disqualifying)</li>
<li>Comfortable supporting personal care needs</li>
</ul>
Preferred:
<ul>
<li>Experience in caregiving, DSP, behavioral support, or IDD roles 
</li>
<li>Experience supporting individuals with I/DD</li>
<li>Strong communication and boundary-setting skills</li>
<li>CPR/First Aid certification</li></ul>
