Direct Support Professional (DSP) Supervisor

Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and energetic Direct Support Professional (DSP) Supervisor to lead and oversee a team of compassionate DSPs providing high-quality care to individuals with diverse needs. This role is approximately 50% direct support and 50% staff supervision. Work includes remote administrative responsibilities, in-office time (up to 50%) in St.Paul/Brooklyn Center, MN, and field visits in client homes.

Duties

  • Supervise and support a team of Direct Support Professionals, ensuring they deliver exceptional care aligned with individual care plans and organizational policies
  • Conduct regular staff training on topics such as HIPAA compliance, patient observation, medication administration, CPR/First Aid, and safety procedures
  • Monitor resident well-being through patient observation, vital signs checks, and activity engagement to ensure safety and comfort
  • Assist with ADLs (Activities of Daily Living), including bathing, dressing, grooming, meal preparation, and mobility assistance using equipment like Hoyer lifts
  • Oversee medication administration and documentation in compliance with HIPAA regulations and care plans
  • Maintain a clean, safe environment by ensuring proper cleaning routines are followed within group homes or home & community care settings
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to develop and update individualized care plans tailored to each resident’s needs
  • Lead incident investigations related to patient monitoring or behavioral challenges and implement corrective actions promptly
  • Support residents during outings or community activities to promote social engagement and independence
  • Ensure compliance with all state and federal regulations related to long-term care, hospice, dementia, Alzheimer’s, autism spectrum disorder (ASD), and other specialized services

Experience

  • Proven experience working in assisted living facilities, nursing homes, or home health environments with individuals requiring complex care such as Alzheimer’s or dementia care
  • Prior supervisory experience leading teams of Direct Support Professionals or caregiving staff in group home or community-based settings
  • Strong background in patient observation, vital signs monitoring, medication management, and emergency response procedures such as CPR/First Aid certification
  • Familiarity with HIPAA regulations ensuring confidentiality of patient information at all times
  • Hands-on experience assisting with ADLs and providing compassionate patient care for individuals with developmental disabilities or disabilities requiring specialized support
  • Knowledge of safety protocols involving heavy lifting equipment like Hoyer lifts or resident lifts for mobility assistance
  • Experience working with individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), dementia, or memory care needs is highly desirable
  • Ability to develop and implement effective care plans while maintaining detailed documentation aligned with regulatory standards
  • Excellent communication skills for coordinating with healthcare teams, families, residents, and staff members
