Summary
Energy Management oversees MU’s district-energy combined heat and power (CHP) system, which provides utility services to more than 16 million square feet of facilities, including hospitals and clinics, a research reactor, research facilities, laboratories, academic buildings, residential halls, dining facilities, recreational and athletic facilities, computing centers, and administrative buildings.
Utility services include steam, electricity, domestic water, chilled water, storm and sanitary sewer, utility distribution, insulation services, building energy automation and conservation, new and renovated building HVAC commissioning, and coordination of utilities for MU’s off-campus facilities.
At the heart of our operations is the cutting-edge Combined Cooling, Heating, and Power Plant (CCHP), which generates steam, chilled water, and electricity to heat, cool, and energize more than 17 million square feet of academic, research, athletic, and healthcare facilities.
Our impact extends far beyond energy generation. With more than 100 miles of underground utility distribution systems beneath the campus, Utility Distribution provides cost-effective, reliable, and resilient services that power the University’s academic and research excellence.
