Director, Career Development Department, Career Development Department, School of Continuing Education

Reports to: Associate Dean, Enrollment and Instructional Affairs


Purpose:

The purpose of this position is to provide visionary leadership and expert technical direction for the design, delivery, and management of high-quality continuing education programs that equip learners with the skills and competencies required for success in the modern job market. The director is responsible for identifying and responding to evolving market needs, developing and implementing departmental goals and strategies, and ensuring that program offerings effectively bridge the gap between academic preparation and workforce readiness across multiple fields. He or She is also responsible for overseeing departmental operations and staff and managing the department’s budget.


Responsibilities:

Leadership and Team Development:

  • Provide strategic leadership to department staff and instructors, fostering a cooperative team spirit and a strong sense of departmental identity
  • Promote a high standard of professionalism across all levels of the department
  • Motivate and engage staff and instructors, maintaining regular communication and encouraging professional growth
  • Recruit, select, and supervise instructors, ensuring optimal course assignments based on qualifications and performance
  • Conduct annual evaluations of instructors and staff, implementing actions based on performance results and department needs

Program Development and Delivery:

  • Establish and align departmental goals with the School and the University's vision and strategic plan
  • Oversee and enhance the quality of course content and delivery, ensuring high standards are met and maintained
  • Innovate and implement new teaching pedagogies within the department, providing effective training for faculty
  • Lead the design and development of new programs in response to market needs, heading relevant task forces
  • Ensure program objectives are compatible across inter- and intra-departmental offerings

Strategic Growth and Outreach:

  • Develop and implement strategies to increase enrollment by initiating and enhancing diverse modes of delivery for various target audiences
  • Assess market needs and expand course offerings to ensure the full range of department courses is well-targeted and effectively marketed
  • Identify and pursue collaborations with other departments within the school and the University where feasible
  • Provide direction for departmental activities and events to effectively support offerings and achieve enrollment targets

Operational Management and Compliance:

  • Propose, adjust, and manage the department's budget, focusing on increasing revenues while enhancing instructional quality and controlling costs
  • Ensure all department activities and programs align with relevant accreditation requirements
  • Prepare comprehensive reports, documents, and presentations to communicate departmental activities and performance to relevant administrators
  • Implement appropriate changes to continuously improve the department's overall functioning


Requirements:

Minimum Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in business administration, management or any relevant field
  • A master's in a related field is required and PhD is preferred


Experience:

  • A minimum of 15 years of experience, including 10 years in educational administration, and a minimum of seven years of teaching, preferably in an adult and continuing education environment


Skills:

  • Excellent English and Arabic language ability, both written and verbal
  • Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Strong organizational and planning skills
  • Excellent understanding of cultural differences
  • Comprehensive understanding of teacher development
  • Ability to market and promote programs
  • Excellent computer skills and use of AI tools
