From the beginning, Starbucks set out to be a different kind of company. One that not only celebrates coffee and its rich traditions, but that also brings a feeling of connection. We are known for developing extraordinary leaders who share this passion and are guided by their service to others.

The director, corporate counsel will be a key member of a team of legal professionals supporting multiple lines of business requiring creative, proactive, and practical legal guidance. In this role, your primary responsibility will be to provide legal advice and transactional support for several commercial categories, including but not limited to the procurement of technology, logistics and distribution, equipment and goods, and professional services. This role involves engaging with business partners (employees) at all levels within the organization, negotiating and drafting commercial agreements, managing significant legal risks, anticipating and identifying highly complex legal and business issues, and operating with broad reach and impact across the organization. You may work with and supervise outside counsel and other in-house legal professionals. Experience in technology transactions, logistics and distribution, global supply chain, privacy/AI, and contract management system implementation is preferred.

As a director, corporate counsel, you will:

  • Review, draft and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements, including technology-related agreements, logistics and distribution agreements, professional services agreements, purchase agreements, and other miscellaneous agreements in support of the global supply chain and technology organizations.

  • Provide legal advice and training to the procurement team and business leaders on a range of commercial and contract issues.

  • Coordinate across internal legal teams on a variety of matters related to commercial transactions (e.g., Privacy, IP, Customs, and Tax).

  • Interface with external legal counsel on bespoke issues and within budget parameters.

  • Provide high-level legal expertise across the organization.

  • Develop and implement solutions together with the business that anticipate and mitigate risks.

  • Manage and develop relationships with partners (employees) and outside counsel to create strategic and innovative solutions that address issues and achieve business objectives.

  • Provide feedback and evaluate process improvements to increase efficiencies.

  • Collaborate with team members to achieve business, customer, and partner results.

  • Embody our culture and values and demonstrate servant leadership.

We’d love to hear from people with:

  • JD degree and active license to practice law in applicable jurisdiction(s).

  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant legal experience in a law firm or in-house legal department.

  • Experience supervising legal professionals including attorneys, paralegals, and legal support partners.

  • Experience with commercial and technology related transactions.
  • Experience and interest in supporting a wide variety of commercial transactions.
  • A passion and curiosity for technology and complex problem solving.
  • Strong time management and prioritization skills.

Additionally, Starbucks offers 100% upfront tuition coverage for a first-time bachelor’s degree through Arizona State University’s online program via the Starbucks College Achievement Plan, student loan management resources, and access to other educational opportunities. You will also have access to backup care and DACA reimbursement. Starbucks will comply with any applicable state and local laws regarding employee leave benefits, including, but not limited to providing time off pursuant to the Colorado Healthy Families and Workplaces Act, and in accordance with its plans and policies. This list is subject to change depending on collective bargaining in locations where partners have a certified bargaining representative. For roles in other states, you will be granted vacation time starting at 120 hours annually for roles below director and 200 hours annually for roles director and above.

The actual base pay offered to the successful candidate will be based on multiple factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, and internal equity. At Starbucks, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at the high end of the range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent upon the facts and circumstances of each position and candidate.
