Purpose of the Role
– The Data Strategy Lead will serve the R&D data strategy and solutions across Lilly Research Labs (LRL), responsible for shaping a bold, LRL enterprise-wide vision that positions data as the backbone of innovation, compliance, and efficiency in Pharma R&D. This leader will influence at the highest levels, connecting scientific ambition with technology execution, and ensuring R&D Tech’s data ecosystem enables breakthrough science, regulatory excellence, and speed to market.

Vision & Strategy

Define and drive the data strategy across all R&D domains (Discovery, Clinical, Regulatory, Safety and CMC).

Establish a bold, future-ready data vision that transforms the way Lilly leverages data for AI, automation, and scientific innovation.

Align data priorities with corporate strategy, ensuring business and science outcomes are maximized.

Architecture & Design Leadership
-
Act as the Strategic Leader for R&D Tech – designing integrated, scalable, and interoperable platforms (Data Lakes, Mesh, Fabric).

Embed pharma-specific data standards (CDISC, FHIR, HL7, Allotrope, etc.) into architectures to ensure interoperability and global alignment.

Create long-term blueprints that balance innovation with compliance and security.

Governance & Compliance

Lead LRL enterprise-wide data governance, quality, and stewardship frameworks that uphold regulatory standards (GxP, GDPR, HIPAA, 21 CFR Part 11).

Ensure enterprise data assets are AI-ready, audit-ready, and business-ready.

Build trust across stakeholders by ensuring transparency, lineage, and accountability in data use.

Influence senior executives and functional leaders, acting as a trusted advisor and change agent.

Inspire teams with a bold narrative of how data can transform the future of drug discovery and development.

Represent Lilly externally in industry consortiums and regulatory dialogues, ensuring Lilly helps shape global standards.

Innovation Enablement

Drive data-driven innovation across the R&D lifecycle, enabling advanced analytics, ML/AI, and digital health solutions.

Partner with scientists, clinicians, and technologists to accelerate insights, reduce cycle times, and unlock new scientific frontiers.

Establish innovation sandboxes and labs where teams can safely experiment with new approaches while ensuring compliance guardrails.

Foster a culture of continuous learning and help technical talents learn modern data platforms (e.g., Databricks, Snowflake, Fabric).
