Gatehouse Administration Center
Summary
Performs the full range of professional duties and oversees administrative functions required to support activities, projects, and initiatives related to the School Board; serves as a liaison on behalf of individual Board members in communications between constituents, community organizations, Division leadership and staff, and varied elected officials. At-will position and may be terminated at any time subject to needs of the School Board member.
Qualifications

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree in political science, journalism, communications, public administration, or relevant field.

Three (3) years of experience in high level strategic, analytical, and/or supervisorial functions to support research and policy analysis, constituent services, legislative support, communications and community relations, or other similar projects, and initiatives.

Advanced degree(s) beyond the minimum degree requirement in a relevant field may be considered for some experience.

Knowledge of the principles, and practices of administrative, business, or legislative office management.

Knowledge of how to maintain and optimize social media vehicles, to include technical skills and ability to determine appropriate content to share.

Familiarity with the functions and activities of county, state, and federal agencies.

Proficiency in the use of office technology, including spreadsheet, presentation, and desktop publishing software.

Proficiency with data compilation, analysis, and reporting.

Ability to handle sensitive information and maintain a high level of confidentiality.

Ability to deal tactfully and respectfully at all levels.

Ability to work under pressure to meet time constraints and deadlines.

Ability to communicate in a manner that is clear, informative, and accessible - both verbally and in writing - to multiple audiences and stakeholders, using correct grammar, punctuation, and content structure.

Bachelor's degree.

Some professional or substantive volunteer experience in public education or government relations environment.

Knowledge of public education mission, organization, instructional goals, and curriculum practices.

Skill in working with BoardDocs.

Proficiency in using GovDelivery or similar newsletter or email subscription management system and analyzing associated outreach data.
Major Duties/Essential Functions
- Performs sensitive, confidential, and complex responsibilities in direct support of a School Board member, ensuring discretion, accuracy, and efficiency in all tasks.

Drives research efforts, analyzes complex issues, and provides strategic insights on matters brought to the Board member's office, ensuring alignment with regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Develops presentations, reports, charts, and other materials, identifying and prioritizing key issues.

Guides and oversees the research and execution of special projects, ensuring alignment with School Board priorities.

Interprets and advises on regulations and procedures, ensuring compliance and providing clarity to stakeholders.

Facilitates focus groups and community meetings, driving engagement efforts to gather data for research, assess constituent needs, and inform policy discussions.

Proactively briefs the Board member on critical updates, trends, and legislative agendas related to public education, as well as local, state, and federal regulations and laws.

Provides written recommendations or position papers based on analysis as required.

Oversees administrative functions, including handling correspondence, calls, and visitors; drafting and reviewing responses for accuracy; tracking and following up on actions; maintaining the Board member's calendar; arranging travel; and assisting with reimbursements.

Provides technical assistance to Board member as needed.

Interfaces with the Leadership Team, the School Board, school personnel, state/county/local government officials, business groups, community groups, vendors, and constituents of Fairfax County.

Collaborates and promotes engagement to progress the School Board's work including, but not limited to, outreach; scheduling of community and constituent meetings; and assisting in preparing for and attending community, School Board, and FCPS events/meetings, as required by the School Board member.

Oversees constituent communications, managing and maintaining the Board member's FCPS communication platforms, including social media, websites, and newsletters, ensuring consistent and effective messaging.

Works a schedule that may vary weekly depending on needs of the Board member.

Performs related duties as required or assigned.
Work Environment/Physical Requirements
This job generally operates in a professional or home office environment and has a noise level of mostly low to moderate. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
