Under administrative direction, the Director Facilities Management at Macrotechnology Works (MTW), primary duties are to:
Plan, organize and direct Facilities Management activities at MacroTechnology Works (MTW).
Oversee all aspects of operations and facilities management at MTW and deliver highly reliable, customer-oriented, and collaborative services with a focus on effective and efficient operation.
Work closely and cooperatively with all ASU and non-ASU partners, including Capital Program Management Group (CPMG), Office of the University Architects (OUA), Environmental Health and Safety (EHS), Knowledge Enterprise (KE), Fulton Schools of Engineering (FSE), and any other ASU academic units and vendors (design firms, contractors) to assist in accomplishing tasks/projects safely and professionally.
Provide administrative leadership to direct reports
Assist with technical questions/concerns from direct reports
Assist in alleviation of issues and/concerns from direct reports through discussion and/or elevation to leadership.
Work harmoniously with others, adhere to department and university policies and procedures, and follow the instructions of supervision.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
The Director must have the ability to collaborate well and supportively, with strong interpersonal skills, to build trust, cultivate understanding, personally exemplify a customer service orientation, and foster and maintain good working relationships with varied and diverse constituencies.
The successful candidate will have deep knowledge of semiconductor fabrication and cleanroom systems and design requirements, semiconductor operations, processes, and chemistries, and wet/dry laboratory space. They will have strong communication and relationship skills, a commitment to transparency and service, and the vision and leadership capacity to enable the MTW facilities organization to manage the broad range of its responsibilities and expectations.
The ideal candidate will have:
Overseen large service-oriented organization operations comprised of a diverse non-union employee population, including progressive management style.
Experience with cleanroom operations and Knowledge of preventive maintenance techniques.
Knowledge of sustainable practices and principles.
The ability to review plans submitted to site for building modifications and equipment installations against all aspects of code and safety compliance.
Knowledge of laws and ordinances regulating building construction and operation including, but not limited to, the Uniform Building Code, the electrical, plumbing and mechanical codes, the Arizona State Revised Statutes and all laws which apply to life, safety, and disabled accessibility in public buildings.
Experience with budget formulation and execution; cost benefit analysis and presentation skills and ability to effectively research and compile comprehensive reports.
Experience planning, analyzing, and coordinating activities and establishing priorities.
Experience establishing and maintaining effective working relationships and effectively managing, supervising, and evaluating assigned staff as well as a basic knowledge of common human resources practices.
A strong customer service commitment, problem solving and decision-making skills.
Experience with regular activities that require the ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts.
The ability to effectively communicate.
Essential Duties
The Director, Facilities Management works collaboratively with key stakeholders including ASU’s Knowledge Enterprise and Facilities Development and Management to direct and oversee all aspects of operations and facilities at MTW. The Director works cooperatively with ASU partners including Capital Program Management Group (CPMG) and Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) to assist with construction projects and equipment installations and actively participates in the campus space, facility, and infrastructure improvement planning activities of MTW, including establishing lease rates, COOP plans, space utilization. Additionally, the Director has oversight of the facility technical engineer teams and of the third-party property management company responsible for technical facilities operations and maintenance of the MTW building.
Looking to the future, the Director is responsible for the development of future utilization and growth plans for MTW in coordination with other departments at ASU and leads the development of department strategic plans.
Additional responsibilities:
Maintain effective working relationships with administrators of campus academic, research and support services units as well as various agencies and organizations, including professional societies, and state and local planning, maintenance, and educational agencies.
Develop and manage all budgets for MTW.
Responsible for fiscal/administrative operations including purchase orders, invoices, tracking, PCARDs, tours, and building security.
Coordinate leases and leased space with ASU Real Estate Department.
Maintain day-to-day leadership and assign work related to activities, projects, and programs; reviews and evaluates work process, methods, and procedures of assigned department and contract personnel.
Oversee the selection, assignments, and evaluations of assigned department personnel to assess performance.
Oversee and monitor applicable safety compliance and safety training for assigned staff.
Prepare and contribute to reports based on careful study of planning issues and makes appropriate recommendations.
Manage and report on performance of assigned area.
Participate in the development and implementation of sustainability initiatives.
DAYS AND SCHEDULE: Monday-Friday 8:00AM – 5:00PM
Salary rate

Desired Qualifications
Experience in:
managing a semiconductor manufacturing / research operation. (10-15 years)
Knowledge of
semiconductor operations, processes, and chemistry.
the principles and design of semiconductor cleanrooms, labs, equipment, air flow, measurements, filtration.
operations, capacity, and maintenance of all physical infrastructure components of the building; Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Fire Systems.
numerous safety codes to include fire codes, building codes, ADA, OSHA, NFPA, NEC, Semiconductor industry standards (SEMI), Toxic Gas Ordinance (TGO), Industry Standard Practices.
Construction Project Management experience, including ROM and detailed line-item estimates, project tracking, etc.
Evidence of effective communication skills
Working Environment
Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office cubical setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse.
Required to stand/sit for varying lengths of time and travel moderate distances to perform work.
Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds
Lift and carry up to 25 lbs
Drive University vehicles.
