DESCRIPTION

The Information Services Director, Inpatient Clinical Systems provides clinical and IT leadership for application teams supporting the acute care environment. This role leads managers and teams across Epic Clinical Documentation, Orders, Client Systems, Virtual Care, and Medication Processes to advance patient safety, quality, and operational efficiency. The Director oversees ongoing maintenance and optimization of the Epic EMR and related clinical systems, while identifying and implementing technology-enabled process improvements. They partner with IS leaders, operational stakeholders, and vendors to develop strategic plans for the EMR and ancillary applications, and manage associated capital and operating budgets in collaboration with IS Finance and the PMO.

This role works closely with nursing and physician informatics leaders to deliver initiatives aligned with organizational goals. Key responsibilities will include:

  • Partner with nursing, lab, pharmacy, pulmonary, and other clinical and administrative leaders to drive quality, safety, and value through technology-enabled care.
  • Guide Patient Flow leaders on optimal applications design complimenting Mission Control and intelligent care that drives throughput and mitigates capacity issues.
  • Direct all Application Resiliency efforts, including Epic infrastructure activities such QA/Testing processes, business continuity/downtime preparedness, endpoint management, app launching, and environment management.
  • Support a multi-hospital system of owned and joint acute care sites across the region through an applications architecture that is highly reliable, integrated, and efficient.
  • Vision and understanding of how applications supports the Hospital of the Future alongside leaders in facilities & construction, innovation, nursing, and infrastructure technologies.
  • Align with the nursing and physician informatics leaders to ensure nursing has optimal documentation and care tools through Epic and associated technologies.
  • Monitor and translate emerging healthcare IT trends into actionable insights aligned with clinician needs and maximal financial margins through applications rationalization of inpatient systems.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in healthcare information technology, computer science, or related area, or equivalent combination of experience/ training.
  • Eight or more years of relevant Information Services and leadership experience, preferably in large integrated health system(s) and academic medical center(s).
  • Experience and proven success in clinical applications concepts, policies, and practices, including planning, design, development, testing, integrations of software and systems, programming, and training and support methodologies.
  • Extensive experience in the hospital inpatient setting, particularly in health technology leadership roles.
  • Excellent leadership skills, with the ability to create and maintain a goal-oriented climate of teamwork and collaboration across departments for effective problem solving, conflict resolution, support for organizational values, and consistent achievement of objectives.
  • Excellent analytical and critical-thinking skills, to quickly troubleshoot problems, and develop and apply analytics to identify and implement successful solutions.
  • Excellent ability to collaborate with senior management and executive-level staff, to develop and implement objectives, goals, budgets, strategic plans, policies, and priorities, and to measure and evaluate operations in conjunction with them.
  • Excellent communications skills to convey complex information clearly and concisely to all levels of staff and management, with the ability to motivate, influence, and persuade others, and cultivate a strong commitment to efficiency, functionality, and quality customer service.
  • Thorough knowledge of healthcare information technology, medical terminology and leading clinical information systems. In-depth and comprehensive understanding of clinical applications and integration with clinical processes and workflows.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience as a clinician or healthcare operational worker in the inpatient setting
  • Clinical Informatics experience – strong collaboration with informatics teams and specialists
  • Manager or higher level leadership of large teams, including recruitment, development, performance management, and employee wellness
  • Experience supporting and maintaining third-party applications beyond the EMR
  • Experience leading large EMR projects across numerous IT and Ops teams to success
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with diverse personalities.
  • Ability to build relationships, including support for aligned planning and governance processes.
  • Knowledge of procurement, purchasing, and budgeting processes

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $149,700 - $297,700 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $71.70 - $142.58

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
