Overview:
JOB SUMMARY
The Director of the IT PMO is responsible for establishing and leading a high-performing enterprise Project Management Office that drives execution of strategic technology initiatives. This role ensures alignment between IT investments and business priorities, enabling disciplined delivery, governance, and value realization across the portfolio. This role involves managing a team of project managers, collaborating with stakeholders, and ensuring adherence to budgets, timelines, and quality standards. The Director plays a pivotal role in driving innovation, operational excellence, and strategic alignment across IT initiatives. You will also be responsible for setting project management standards and expectations and delivering large, cross functional projects.
Responsibilities:
Essential Functions
Develops project management methodologies, policies, and best practices to improve efficiency.- Oversees a portfolio of projects, balancing resources, budgets, and ROI to meet company goals.
- Define and execute the PMO vision, operating model, and governance framework.
- Establish standardized project, program, and portfolio management methodologies (Agile, Waterfall, Hybrid).
- Lead enterprise IT portfolio planning, prioritization, and intake processes.
- Partner with executive leadership to evaluate and fund initiatives based on ROI, risk, and strategic value.
- Ensure consistent delivery of projects on time, budget, and scope.
- Establish and enforce IT governance, stage gates, and escalation frameworks.
- Identify and mitigate delivery risks, dependencies, and constraints.
- Provide transparent reporting to C-suite and executive steering committees.
- Ensure strong cross-functional collaboration between IT, operations, and business units.
- Drive value realization and benefits tracking post-implementation.
- Drive accountability through KPIs, OKRs, and performance metrics.
- Develop PMO maturity roadmap, tools, and best practices.
- Build and lead a team of program managers, project managers, and analysts.
- Foster a culture of execution excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications:
MINIMUM EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree (higher degree accepted)
PREFERRED EDUCATION: Master's Degree
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
- 5 years experience as a change agent driving digital transformation and operational excellence
- 5 years of project managment experience
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
- 2 years experience wih health systems, clinical applications (EHR), and regulatory environments (HIPAA, etc.)
- 2 years experience with revenue cycle, patient experience, and clinical workflows
REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE (upon hire):
- PMP (Project Management Professional
- CSM (Certified Scrum Master)
