A Day in the Life
As the Director, Contracts, you’ll be at the heart of L’Oréal USA’s Legal Team. You’ll play a pivotal role in drafting, negotiating, and interpreting a wide range of commercial agreements, ensuring our business operates smoothly and in compliance with the law. This is a fast-paced, dynamic role with opportunities to grow and make a meaningful impact.
Here’s what you’ll be working on:- Drafting & Negotiating: Review, draft, and negotiate a variety of commercial contracts with vendors, business partners, and other third parties, with a specific focus on marketing, advertising, talent, social influencer, licenses and other intellectual property and rights related agreements.
- Strategic Collaboration: Partner with attorneys and other legal team colleagues to develop and maintain templates, playbooks, contracting policies, and negotiation practices.
- Risk Mitigation: Provide advice on legal and business risks, offering creative and effective solutions to mitigate them, with a special focus on providing strategic advice to our brand and marketing teams.
- Data Management: Maintain a comprehensive contracts database and provide training to internal business partners, as needed.
- Policy Development: Contribute to the evolution of contracting policies and escalation procedures.
- External Counsel Management: Oversee and manage outside counsel on select projects.
We Are Looking For
You’re a great match for this role if you have:- Legal Expertise: JD from an ABA-accredited law school and admission to practice in New York (or eligibility for an in-house license) or Bachelor Degree and at least 10 years of equivalent experience.
- Experience: 5+ years of experience in a law firm and/or in-house legal department, with a specific focus on marketing, advertising, talent, license, branding and intellectual property. In-house legal experience highly preferred.
- Industry Knowledge: Experience in the beauty, retail and consumer goods industries is highly preferred.
- Skills: Strong contract drafting and negotiation skills, with the ability to identify risks and propose effective solutions.
- Mindset: A self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced environment and collaborates effectively with diverse teams.
- Communication: Diplomatic and clear communication skills to build strong partnerships across the organization.
- Global Experience: Experience working within a complex, global organization and interacting with colleagues on cross-functional global legal issues
Physical Requirements
This role is based in an office setting and requires the following:
- Ability to work in a standard office environment, including extended periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Ability to use standard office equipment such as a computer, keyboard, mouse, telephone, and printer.
- Occasional light lifting of files, documents, or office supplies (up to 10 lbs).
- Ability to travel to meetings or events as needed.
