Director Mental Health

Position Summary

The Director of Mental Health at Camden County DOC is responsible for overseeing the delivery of comprehensive mental health services to incarcerated individuals in accordance with Department of Corrections requirements and community standards of care. This role provides clinical and administrative leadership for all mental health services at the site, ensures compliance with applicable regulations, and serves as the primary liaison with external mental health providers. The Director also provides on-call clinical support as required.

Position Requirements

  • Master’s or Doctoral degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or a related behavioral health field from an accredited institution
  • Current, unrestricted licensure as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or equivalent independent clinical license in the state where services are provided
  • Clinical experience, including supervisory or leadership experience (correctional or institutional experience preferred) Knowledge of evidence-based mental health practices and correctional health care standards
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required security clearance.

  • Upholds HIPAA and PREA regulations
  • Punctual and dependable for assigned/confirmed shifts
  • Maintains security clearance for the assigned facility

Performance Expectations / Essential Duties

  • Provide direct supervision, leadership, and performance evaluation of all mental health clinical staff
  • Develop, implement, and enforce policies and procedures related to mental health services in compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards
  • Collaborate regularly with the Health Services Administrator to communicate updates, needs, and performance metrics related to mental health services
  • Coordinate and integrate mental health care with medical, nursing, and custody staff
  • Oversee the referral and coordination process for psychiatric and psychopharmacological services
  • Ensure appropriate assessment and transfer of inmates requiring higher levels of mental health care
  • Participate in clinical, administrative, and interdisciplinary meetings as scheduled
  • Provide direct clinical services when necessary to meet patient care needs
  • Oversee and ensure effective mental health discharge planning and continuity of care for individuals transitioning back into the community
  • Maintain compliance with documentation, confidentiality, and quality assurance standards
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the mission of the facility
