Miami-Dade County is seeking a visionary, innovative, and community-focused executive to serve as Library Director for the Miami-Dade Public Library System (MDPLS). This executive-level role requires a seasoned leader who can balance strategic vision, operational excellence, fiscal stewardship, and meaningful community engagement within one of the nation’s largest and most diverse local governments.
MDPLS is a cornerstone of lifelong learning and civic engagement, delivering services through 50 library locations, home delivery, Bookmobiles, the Technobus, and comprehensive virtual programming. The MDPLS supports early literacy, academic achievement, workforce readiness, digital inclusion, and cultural enrichment, while providing extensive remote access to digital content and resources.
The Library Director providing strategic leadership and administrative oversight for a geographically distributed network of library branches serving the residents of Miami-Dade County. The Director is responsible for long-range strategic planning; development and administration of operating and capital budgets; oversight of capital improvement initiatives; policy development; collection strategy; technology advancement; and overall organizational and workforce management. The Director leads a staff of approximately 700 employees including professional librarians, technical staff, support staff and administrative personnel. The Director emphasizes operational accountability, continuous improvement, innovation, and high-quality public service. The FY 2025-26 budget for operating and capital is approximately $124 million.
The Library Director is a member of the Mayor’s executive leadership team and reports to the Chief Operating Officer who is responsible for Aviation Transportation and Public Works, Water and Sewer, Public Housing and Cultural Affairs. Miami-Dade County is internationally recognized for its achievement in implementing a results-oriented government culture and commitment to transparency and accountability. The incumbent will work closely with the Mayor, Board of County Commissioners, County leadership, municipalities, educational institutions, labor partners and community stakeholders.

The Director of Libraries will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of public library services in a rapidly growing metropolitan community.

Miami-Dade County is the largest county in Florida with approximately 2.7 million residents. The County has a strong Mayor form of government.
The Board of County Commissioners (BCC) is the legislative body, consisting of 13 members elected from single-member districts. Members are elected and serve one four-year term and may serve up to two consecutive four-year terms. The Commission chooses a chairperson who presides over the BCC and appoints the members of legislative committees.
In January 2025, the Miami-Dade County transitioned to include five Constitutional Offices with elected leaders including Sheriff, Clerk of Court and Comptroller, Property Appraiser, Tax Collector and Supervisor of Elections.
