Job Type: Full-Time, Exempt
The Director of Clinical Laboratory provides leadership for the administrative, technical, financial, quality, compliance, and personnel functions of clinical laboratory services. This role oversees one or multiple laboratory departments and ensures services are delivered in accordance with hospital policy, system standards, and regulatory requirements.
The Director partners with local laboratory leadership and Corporate Laboratory Operations to support standardized practices, system integration, and performance outcomes. This position maintains a hands-on presence, provides operational guidance, and supports laboratory operations as needed, including performing routine testing.
Responsibilities:
- Direct overall laboratory operations, including administrative management, technical oversight, quality assurance, compliance, and staffing.

Ensure ongoing regulatory compliance with local, state, and federal requirements, including CLIA, CAP, and The Joint Commission (TJC).

Support system-wide standardization and integration of laboratory policies, procedures, LIS, instrumentation, supplies, and quality processes.

Collaborate with Corporate Laboratory Operations Leadership on policies, procedures, equipment, supplies, and laboratory information systems.

Lead quality improvement and performance monitoring, ensuring laboratories meet or exceed established financial, quality, and service KPIs.

Maintain accountability for financial performance, including budgeting, productivity, and cost management.

Provide direct operational support, including performing routine laboratory testing as needed.

Supervise and develop laboratory personnel, ensuring appropriate staffing, competency, and performance management.

Manage special projects and system initiatives, ensuring completion within established timelines.
Qualifications:
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING
1. Bachelor of Science degree in a scientific field to meet requirements of Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act (CLIA).
2. Possession of a valid license or certificate of Clinical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Technologist or Medical Laboratory Scientist, ASCP preferred
3. Minimum 5 years supervisory clinical laboratory experience required.
4. General Accounting and statistics and financial operating experience
5. Quality Control and quality tools management courses desired
6. LEAN Six Sigma certification preferred
7. Master’s Degree preferred.

A reasonable compensation estimate for this role, which includes estimated wages, benefits, and other forms of compensation, is $85,280.00 to $123,510.40 on an annualized basis. The exact starting compensation to be offered will be determined at the time of selecting an applicant for hire, in which a wide range of factors will be considered, including but not limited to, skillset, years of applicable experience, education, credentials and licensure.
