Position Summary & Responsibilities

Position Summary:

The Director of Clinical Therapy is responsible for the overall leadership, management, and oversight of clinical therapeutic services within the behavioral health hospital. This role ensures the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based therapeutic care, supervision of therapy staff, and compliance with all regulatory and accreditation standards. The Director of Clinical Therapy collaborates with interdisciplinary leadership to support patient outcomes, program development, and operational efficiency.

Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

Clinical Leadership & Oversight

  • Direct and oversee all therapeutic services (individual, group, and family therapy)
  • Ensure implementation of evidence-based treatment modalities (e.g., CBT, DBT, trauma-informed care)
  • Maintain a caseload as needed for patient care and modeling best practices
  • Monitor quality of care and patient outcomes, implementing improvements as needed
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate therapeutic programs and services
  • Lead performance improvement initiatives and outcome tracking
  • Participate in hospital-wide quality and safety initiatives
  • Oversee daily operations of the therapy department
  • Develop and manage departmental budget and productivity standards
  • Ensure accurate and timely documentation and billing practices
  • Collaborate with leadership on strategic planning and program growth

Staff Supervision & Development

  • Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate therapists and related staff
  • Provide clinical supervision and guidance to licensed and unlicensed staff
  • Ensure staff competency, licensure compliance, and ongoing professional development
  • Mentor and lead interns through intern program

Regulatory & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and accreditation standards (e.g., Joint Commission, CMS)
  • Develop and maintain policies and procedures for therapy services
  • Participate in audits, surveys, and regulatory reviews

Interdisciplinary Collaboration

  • Collaborate with nursing, psychiatry, social work, and administration
  • Participate in treatment team meetings and discharge planning
  • Serve as a liaison between clinical therapy services and hospital leadership

Completes special projects and performs other duties as assigned including but not limited to ensuring the agency is adequately staffed during and immediately following natural and/or manmade disasters, infectious disease outbreaks, and/or acts of terrorism. Assists other employees in the work unit in accomplishing assignments as necessary

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Master’s or Doctoral degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or related field required
  • Current, active licensure (e.g., LMSW, LPC, LMFT) required; (e.g., LSCSW, LCPC, LCMFT) preferred

Preferred Requirements

  • 3–5+ years of clinical work experience
  • 2+ years of leadership or supervisory experience
  • Experience in inpatient or acute psychiatric setting strongly preferred

Post-Offer, Pre-employment Requirements

  • Must be able to pass a background check prior to employment.
  • Successfully pass a pre-employment drug screening.
