Director of Communications & Corporate Affairs
What we offer
The Director of Communications & Corporate Affairs is a key member of the URW management team in the US, responsible for shaping and executing an integrated strategy that builds and protects the company’s reputation, engages key stakeholders, and strengthens our presence in the communities we serve. This role leads corporate communications and public relations nationally and in key local markets, while also supporting initiatives led by operations, marketing, development, and corporate teams, and fostering meaningful community and industry partnerships that align with business goals and priorities.
Scope
- Develop and execute comprehensive internal and external communications and community engagement strategies that support business objectives and enhance company reputation.
- Act as a strategic advisor to the US Leadership Team (USLT) and other company leaders, manage tactical media relations, crisis communications, and thought leadership initiatives.
- Represent the US within the Group communications organization and coordinate regional deployment of key global communications initiatives.
- Develop press releases, statements, speeches, internal communications, and other materials, ensuring message consistency at corporate, regional, and local levels.
- Oversee internal communications in partnership with People (HR) team and work closely with leadership on key employee communications.
- Serve as the primary point person for organization of US internal communications events, including quarterly all-hands meetings and annual US leadership summit.
- Support local center teams to assess opportunities for community partnerships and align them with local or company-wide priorities, directly manage partnerships with key organizations.
- Support development teams with key project entitlement campaigns, developing and executing strategies that align local PR, stakeholder engagement, and communications to drive project approvals.
- Work closely with corporate, center, and development teams on issues or crisis management, act as primary media contact/company spokesperson as needed in crisis situations.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with local teams, internal partner departments/leaders, external stakeholders, contracted consultants, PR agencies, and with key industry associations.
- Work with marketing team to advise on the execution of key marketing programs, approve local communications, and elevate national opportunities for corporate media coverage.
- Oversee daily media monitoring and reporting, ad hoc analysis and collation of other KPIs as needed.
What we are looking for
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in Communications, Public Relations, Political Science, or related field.
- 10+ years of progressive experience in corporate communications, public relations, or community affairs, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Demonstrated success in developing and executing integrated strategies across communications, stakeholder engagement, and community affairs.
- Thoughtful and dynamic approach to employee communications, enthusiasm for internal communications and change management/transformation initiatives
- Tactical experience managing issues and crises with composure and sound strategic judgment.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, with an ability to synthesize corporate strategy, positioning, and initiative-based details into communications materials.
- Strong leadership capabilities and self-starter – ability to thrive as a solo contributor, managing tactical execution while remaining elevated and strategic.
- Strong capability to influence and collaborate across the organization.

Compensation
- Exempt
- $150,000 - $194,000 per year + Discretionary Annual Bonus
