Director of Data Science

About the Role

Edge Logistics, a top-tier transportation and logistics company, is seeking a Director of Data Science to lead the development of advanced analytics, pricing models, and data-driven decision-making across the organization and its affiliated entities.

This role will be responsible for building and scaling a high-impact data science function that directly influences pricing strategy, operational efficiency, profitability, and growth initiatives across brokerage, asset-based transportation, factoring, and real estate operations.

The ideal candidate brings deep experience in transportation/logistics, strong technical leadership, and a proven ability to translate complex data into actionable business outcomes.

Key ResponsibilitiesData Strategy & Leadership

• Build and lead the company’s data science and analytics function
• Define and execute a data roadmap aligned with business objectives across multiple entities
• Partner with executive leadership to drive data-driven decision-making

Pricing & Revenue Optimization

• Develop and maintain dynamic pricing models leveraging market data (e.g., DAT, internal data, seasonality, load volumes)
• Build forecasting models for rate optimization, margin improvement, and bid strategy
• Design tools to support real-time quoting and pricing automation

Operational Analytics

• Analyze and improve key metrics such as:
• Cost per mile
• Asset utilization
• Driver productivity
• Network optimization
• Identify inefficiencies and implement data-backed solutions

Data Infrastructure & Integration

• Work with engineering teams to enhance data pipelines (Snowflake, APIs, TMS integrations such as McLeod)
• Ensure availability of clean, structured data across all systems
• Build dashboards and reporting frameworks (Power BI or similar)

Advanced Modeling & AI

• Develop predictive models for:
• Demand forecasting
• Capacity planning
• Risk assessment (credit, fraud, carrier selection)
• Explore AI/ML applications across operations and customer experience

Cross-Entity Support

• Provide analytics and modeling support across:
• Edge Logistics (brokerage)
• Russell Transport (asset-based carrier)
• Atlas Factoring
• Mills Escrow
• Standardize data practices and reporting across entities

Qualifications

• Required:
• 7+ years in data science, analytics, or related field
• Direct experience in transportation, logistics, or supply chain (brokerage or asset-based preferred)
• Strong background in pricing, forecasting, or operational analytics
• Technical Skills:
• Python, SQL, and data modeling frameworks
• Experience with Snowflake or similar data warehouses
• Familiarity with TMS platforms (McLeod, TMW, etc.)
• BI tools (Power BI, Tableau, etc.)
• Leadership:
• Experience building or leading data teams
• Ability to communicate insights to non-technical stakeholders
• Strong business acumen and execution mindset
• Preferred:
• Experience with DAT/market pricing tools
• Background in logistics network optimization or freight economics
• M&A or multi-entity environment experience

Pay: $80,480.63 - $96,922.91 per year
