General Definition of Work
The Director of Data Strategy and Governance, under minimal supervision, performs senior-level leadership with considerable decision-making discretion overseeing the development and management of both internal and external data request processes, as well as data governance and analytical functions that support district departments and external partners. Position is responsible for the creation, maintenance, and optimization of the district's data platforms, ensuring their effective and secure operation. Position is also responsible to uphold data integrity across all systems by ensuring accuracy, consistency, completeness, and reliability throughout the data lifecycle. Employee performs advanced technical and supervisory work to carry out Board of Education policies and procedures under the direction of the Associate Superintendent of Data Governance.

Place of Work
The normal place of work is on the premises used by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools reserves the right to require you to work at such other place(s) as it may reasonably require from time to time.
Essential Functions
- Adhere to all state, federal, and local laws, policies, and procedures
- Lead, manage, supervise, and evaluate assigned staff/programs
- Lead departmental engagements to oversee the data governance process and develop districtwide data dashboards
- Investigate, analyze, and formulate methods for handling special projects/reports
- Develop, coordinate, and oversee internal and external data requests, ensuring alignment and collaboration with each department
- Plan, develop, implement, and direct a strategic framework for monitoring district data, strengthening leaders' ability to meet the district's strategic plan and SOFG goals - particularly those related to continuous improvement
- Manage the efficient, accurate, and timely generation of reports or spreadsheets for large- and small-scale dissemination (internal or external) using statistical software and visualization software
- Develop and monitor the district's data governance system, including recommending policies and procedures that align with CMS Board Policy and State and Federal Laws
- Plan, develop, implement, and direct the use of the framework designed to strategically monitor the district data and build the capacity of district leaders to meet the strategic plan goals, specifically surrounding continuous improvement efforts
- Participate in the development and administration of the department budget
- Facilitate staff meetings and attend other related meetings as needed/required
- Participate in professional development workshops and leadership training
- Create an inclusive environment with positive communication/public relations

Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in business administration, public administration, education, or related field required
- Master's degree and five (5) years of experience in data analysis and integration preferred
- Equivalent combination of experience and education

- Possess and maintain a valid Driver's License or the ability to provide own transportation
- Travel to school district buildings and professional meetings
