Director of Engineering

Position Summary


This position is based in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and reports to the General Manager of Capella Diriyah. The Director of Engineering (DOE) forms part of the Guidance Team who collectively make key strategic and operational decisions for the Hotel. The DOE is responsible for all engineering, maintenance, life safety, sustainability, and technical services across the property. The role oversees both pre‑opening technical delivery and post‑opening operations, ensuring compliance with brand standards and regulatory requirements.


The Role

1. Pre‑Opening Leadership & Project Delivery

- Review architectural, MEP, and specialist systems for compliance, maintainability, and efficiency.

- Conduct site inspections, monitor quality, and close non‑conformance issues.

- Oversee testing and commissioning of all building systems and documentation.

- Lead pre‑opening readiness including SOPs, maintenance plans, and BMS setup.


2. Engineering Operations & Maintenance Management

- Direct all engineering and maintenance functions across the property.

- Ensure reliable operation of utilities including plant, backup power, and fuel systems.

- Implement and audit Preventive Maintenance and inspection programs.

- Manage inventory, procurement, and technical purchasing.


3. Life Safety, Compliance & Sustainability

- Ensure full compliance with fire/life safety systems and standards.

- Conduct hazard surveys and implement corrective action plans.

- Oversee regulatory inspections and liaise with authorities.

- Drive environmental sustainability initiatives.


4. Leadership, People Development & Culture

- Lead, develop, and mentor the Engineering team.

- Ensure strong training culture and interdepartmental collaboration.

- Promote a positive, accountable, and service‑driven culture.


5. Financial Management & Strategic Planning

- Participate in annual business planning and budget preparation.

- Manage CAPEX and oversee special projects and property upgrades.

- Monitor utility usage and implement cost‑saving improvements.


6. Guest & Stakeholder Engagement

- Deliver high‑quality engineering services to guests and colleagues.

- Resolve guest concerns effectively.

- Build strong relationships with vendors, contractors, and authorities.


Talent Profile

Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree in field of Engineering

Experience

Minimum 5 years in a senior engineering role within luxury hotels; pre‑opening experience preferred.

Strong technical and leadership capabilities.

Skills & Attributes

- Effective communicator with strong interpersonal skills.

- High integrity, resilience, and ability to manage complex operations.

- Proficient in Microsoft Office; Arabic language skills beneficial.

- Excellent command in both written and spoken English
