Job Summary:

Biomedical is seeking a strategic and technically skilled professional to lead initiatives that drive supplier innovation, cost optimization, and sourcing excellence. This role is critical to advancing procurement processes and developing sourcing strategies that align with the organization’s business objectives and support its goal of becoming a low-cost provider.

The successful candidate will bring a strong background in engineering consulting and product manufacturing, along with proven expertise in value analysis and value engineering (VA/VE). They will lead VA/VE efforts across Biomedical’s $500M annual supplier spend, identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance performance.

Additionally, this role will manage and/or lead external engineering firms in executing major design and process transformation projects. These initiatives will accelerate product development, strengthen market competitiveness, and drive business growth and differentiation through collaborative innovation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute engineering transformation work for Biomedical.
  • Work with suppliers to identify innovations and implement continuous improvement.
  • Provide engineering expertise/business insights to the Strategic Procurement team in the development and execution of Biomedical supply strategies.
  • Work with Biomedical business leaders and subject matter experts to facilitate alignment of product and supply strategies.
  • Play a key role in owning relationships with Biomedical suppliers considered high risk.
  • Lead or assist with the Business Continuity Program manufacturing site reviews, which are designed to detect and address operational risk and resilience weaknesses.
  • Help define and ensure ESG objectives for Biomedical are met.
  • Assist in the management of third-party engineering/ consulting firms used to augment the capacity of Strategic Procurement.
  • Develop process models that facilitate improved supplier efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Develop total cost of ownership models for supplier products, goods, and services.
  • Provide supervision, direction, and facilitate the development of less experienced engineer(s)

Pay Information:

The salary range for this position is: $130,000 - $145,000

Note that American Red Cross salaries are aligned to the specific geographic location in which the work is primarily performed. Other factors that may be used to determine your actual salary may include your specific skills, how many years of experience you have, and a comparison to other employees already in this role.

Qualifications:

  • 15 years of experience in: design work; lean engineering; value engineering/ value analysis; total quality management; total cost of ownership modeling; conducting product forensics and failure mode analysis.
  • 2 years of experience in blood banking or life sciences.
  • 5 years of staff management.
  • Strong problem-solving and collaboration skills; experience in root-cause-analysis problem-solving techniques; ability to develop & deliver clear presentations and stakeholder communications; strong business acumen, understanding of business structures, processes, and information flow in a matrix organization.
  • Willingness to travel up to 20% each year domestically and periodically make international trips.

  • A combination of the candidate’s education and general experience satisfies the requirements so long as the total years equate to the description’s minimum education and general experience years combined (Management experience cannot be substituted).
