Position Overview:
LVMA seeks a strategic and dynamic leader in finance with deep experience in the non-profit/public sector to serve as a key collaborator on a landmark civic project.
The Director of Finance provides strategic, operational, and administrative leadership for all financial functions of the Museum. Reporting to the Executive Director and working closely with the Board of Trustees, staff, and external consultants, the Director ensures the organization’s financial stability while supporting long-term strategic planning to realize the first standalone fine art museum in Las Vegas. This role oversees all areas of financial management and supports financial planning and oversight for a $200M+ capital budget.
Day-to-day responsibilities include budgeting, forecasting, cash management, financial reporting, and the effective use of systems and technology to strengthen processes, transparency, and operational efficiency. The Director safeguards financial integrity through robust internal controls and compliance with GAAP, nonprofit fiscal standards, and audit requirements.
Primary Responsibilities:
Financial Leadership, Planning, and Analysis
- Develop and implement financial strategies that support the museum’s mission and long-term goals
- Advise executive leadership and the Board on financial risks, opportunities, and financial performance
- Lead multi-year financial planning, scenario modeling, and capital financial planning
- Prepare rolling forecasts and conduct variance analysis
- Provide clear financial insights to support programming, exhibitions, education, and fundraising initiatives
- Serve as a strategic advisor, bring best financial practices and knowledge to the Museum
- Lead relationships with investment advisors, auditors, banking institutions, and other key financial partners
Budget and Financial Management
- Lead the annual budgeting process in collaboration with the Executive Director, senior staff, and external consultants
- Coordinate departmental budget development and consolidate institutional budgets
- Monitor operating performance against approved budgets
- Oversee financial planning related to capital projects and major institutional initiatives
Financial Controls, Compliance, and Governance
- Serves as staff liaison to the Board of Trustees, Finance, and Audit Committees
- Maintain internal financial controls and accounting policies
- Oversee compliance with GAAP, IRS, nonprofit reporting standards, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations
- Manage the annual independent audit and coordinate relationships with external auditors
- Prepare and oversee the Museum’s annual IRS Form 990, and oversee compliance with IRS guidelines
- Oversee insurance, risk management, and contract-related financial compliance
- Manage restricted funds and ensure appropriate use consistent with donor intent
Accounting and Financial Operations
- Oversee accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and revenue recognition
- Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Monitor cash flow and liquidity
- Oversee endowment accounting and financial reporting
- Monitor investment performance in collaboration with the Board Finance Committee
- Supervise and mentor future finance team members, and manage the external bookkeeping consultant
- Evaluate and implement financial systems, technology, and process improvements
- Collaborate with HR, development, operations, and curatorial departments to support institutional initiatives
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration (MBA Degree Preferred)
- 8-10 years of experience in progressive finance roles, with 5+ years of experience in a Senior Finance Management role
- A Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation is preferred
- Strong understanding of nonprofit accounting standards and fund accounting
- Demonstrated experience with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis
- Excellent leadership, communication, and collaboration skills
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and mathematical skills
- Strong computing skills and proficiency in accounting software, ERP, and CRM/Donor Database systems
- Ability to work in a dynamic and flexible startup environment
Preferred Experience:
- Experience working with boards or finance committees
- Knowledge of endowment management and investment oversight
- Familiarity with museum operations, ticketing revenue, grants, and donor‑restricted funding

Pay: $160,000.00 - $165,000.00 per year
