Position Title: Director of Fleet

Pay Rate: $140,000 - $160,000 per Year DOE

Classification: Exempt

Essential Functions:

The Director of Fleet is responsible for directing the operation of the Fleet Management Department in repairing, maintaining, and operating motor vehicles, and heavy equipment. This individual exercises considerable independent judgment and initiative in devising work methods necessary to maintain a large fleet of vehicles and heavy construction equipment in support of all departments. The Director of Fleet is crucial for managing the fleet of vehicles, ensuring that operations run smoothly, efficiently, and in compliance with all regulations.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for optimized asset management, with emphasis on safety, meeting customer requirements, compliance with regulations, and cost benefits
  • Integrates the organization's business plan, goals and budgets with company strategic goals and objectives.
  • Budget Management: Develop and oversee the fleet operations budget, including capital expenditures, maintenance costs, and operational expenses, ensuring financial accountability and efficiency.
  • Meets budget responsibilities through performance evaluation, economic modeling, and leading team process improvement.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensures that all fleet operations comply with all local, state, and federal regulations, local laws, regulations codes and ordinances including safety protocols, vehicle inspections, and environmental standards.
  • Assesses complex competitive/technical issues and political social issues and develops strategies to achieve results that consider the perspective of a wide array of stakeholders.
  • Participates in industry/professional forums to stay abreast of industry direction and new technologies.
  • Team Leadership: Manage and lead the fleet department staff, providing training, performance evaluations, and fostering a collaborative work environment to achieve departmental objectives. Provides leadership for a fleet and warehouse staff.
  • Instructs employees on company core values, company and client policies, and safety policies.
  • Develops schedules and procedures for and ensures adherence to routine maintenance and non-routine repair of all vehicles in the company’s fleet.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with other departments, such as procurement, health and safety, and operations, to integrate fleet operations within the broader organizational strategy. Collaborates with supervisors and staff to manage and reduce expenses such as those for fuel and labor costs.
  • Establishes a schedule for recommended replacement of fleet vehicles.
  • Drafts and presents reports on department operations and expenses.
  • Prepares and implements departmental budget.
  • Risk Management: Implement risk management and safety programs to minimize incidents and liabilities related to fleet operations, ensuring a safe working environment for all employees.
  • Develops and enforces procedures, policies, and safety protocols for all fleet services staff.
  • Fleet Management: Oversee the entire fleet's daily operations, including scheduling, maintenance, and repairs to ensure optimal performance and compliance with safety regulations.
  • Strategic Planning: Develop and implement comprehensive fleet management strategies that align with the organization's long-term goals and operational needs. This includes budgeting, cost management, and resource allocation.
  • Data Analysis: Utilize fleet management software and telematics to analyze data related to fleet performance, maintenance needs, and operational efficiency, making data-driven decisions to enhance productivity.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Experience and Education:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required; bachelor’s degree in related field preferred.
  • 5+ years’ experience in fleet maintenance or repair with two years in a supervisor role required.
  • 5+ years’ experience in fleet management, logistics, or operations, with proven leadership capabilities.
  • Technical Knowledge: In-depth understanding of fleet management principles, maintenance procedures, and regulatory frameworks (DOT, OSHA, EPA).
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted on a year-to-year basis.

Additional Requirements/Licenses/Certifications:

  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid State of Residence Driver’s License is required within two weeks of employment
  • Candidates must pass criminal and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) background checks and pass a pre-employment drug screen
