About Us: The Mars Initiative exists to accelerate and inspire the first crewed expedition to Mars while ensuring that as many people as possible can participate in this monumental journey. We are a worldwide, all-volunteer 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in Texas.

Job Overview The Mars Initiative is an all-volunteer nonprofit organization seeking a Director of Fundraising. As a Director of Fundraising, you will help ideate, organize, and execute the fundraising projects. This is a volunteer position, and we are looking for someone who can commit to working 5-10+ hours per week.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify, research, and propose new fundraising ideas and opportunities
  • Lead and coordinate community-based fundraisers (including partnerships with clubs, student organizations, and local groups)
  • Support planning and execution of events, campaigns, and cause-based fundraisers
  • Actively solicit donations from individuals, businesses, and community partners
  • Develop a list of corporate and business prospects aligned with the mission
  • Assist in crafting fundraising pitches and outreach messaging
  • Make initial contact with prospective partners, sponsors, and donors
  • Collaborate with staff, volunteers, and board members on fundraising initiatives
  • Help organize volunteers and teams around specific fundraising efforts
  • Share regular updates on progress, challenges, and next steps

Qualifications

  • Strong writing and editing skills.
  • Experience in content creation, journalism, marketing, or communications.
  • Creative thinker with a passion for storytelling and space exploration.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
