Job Summary
The Director of Graphic Design for Athletics leads the creation of innovative visual content that strengthens the UTA Athletics brand. The role oversees design across digital, print, social, and web platforms; ensures brand consistency; and supports marketing, communications, and fan engagement initiatives. The director collaborates with internal teams on campaigns and storytelling projects, supervises student design interns, and contributes to the department’s overall creative strategy.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Create and implement visually compelling graphics that align with UTA Athletics’ brand standards across multiple media platforms, including print, digital, social, and web.
  • Partner with external relations, marketing, communications, sponsorship, and ticketing teams to conceptualize and execute creative content for campaigns, events, promotions, and revenue-generation initiatives.
  • Utilize project management tools to organize workflow, manage timelines, assign tasks, and coordinate with internal programs and external vendors to ensure timely, high-quality project delivery.
  • Maintain and enforce UTA Athletics and University brand guidelines, ensuring all visual assets reflect a consistent and professional identity.
  • Recruit, supervise, mentor, and evaluate student graphic design interns by providing creative direction, feedback, and professional development opportunities.
  • Stay current on design trends, emerging technologies, and best practices to continually enhance the department’s creative impact and fan engagement.
  • Contribute to broader creative and brand initiatives supporting UTA Athletics’ marketing and communication goals.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, visual communications, digital media, marketing, or a related field.
  • One (1) year of professional experience in graphic design, preferably within sports, higher education, or a related creative industry.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Two (2) or more years of professional experience as a graphic designer within intercollegiate athletics, professional sports, or an agency setting.
  • Experience leading or mentoring student designers, interns, or creative assistants.
  • Experience and knowledge of motion graphics, video editing, or animation for digital and in-venue use.
  • Experience with project management and workflow collaboration tools (e.g., Asana, Trello, Monday.com).
  • Professional understanding and experience with social media trends and best practices for visual storytelling across platforms (Instagram, X/Twitter, TikTok, YouTube, etc.).
  • Experience collaborating with marketing, communications, and sponsorship teams to deliver creative assets supporting revenue generation and fan engagement.
  • Experience and knowledge of NCAA and institutional branding policies, standards, and approval processes.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, After Effects, and/or Premiere Pro).
  • Professional understanding of visual composition, typography, and color theory, with demonstrated ability to produce designs that align with established brand standards.
  • Experience creating content for multiple platforms, including print, digital, social media, and web.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Professional attention to detail and commitment to maintaining brand integrity and visual consistency.
