The Director of Human Resources reports to and partners closely with the Vice President of Administration and senior leaders to shape and execute HR strategies that support BYU-Pathway’s mission, strategic initiatives, objectives and global growth. This role serves as a senior HR leader responsible for end-to-end HR execution, translating organizational priorities into scalable talent, culture, and workforce solutions across a diverse, international environment. The director is responsible for overseeing and managing regulatory compliance issues for BYU-Pathway, and partners with legal counsel to meet requirements, including compliance and labor related matters. The Director of Human Resources represents BYU-Pathway with the Church’s HR Department (HRD), multiple Church entities, and within the CES-HR community. The Director of Human Resources oversees an HR team of three HR Managers who serve as business partners to the organization, as well as two HR Generalists and several student employees.
Work Environment
- Hybrid schedule (2–3 days in office; additional time as needed)
- Standard hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
- Occasional evenings and weekends for global coordination
- Periodic domestic and international travel required
Strategic HR Leadership :
- Lead and execute a comprehensive HR strategy aligned with institutional mission and growth objectives
- Oversee enterprise HR systems and infrastructure to enable data-driven decision-making and global workforce management
- Direct talent strategies that strengthen recruitment, development, retention, and leadership pipelines
- Establish and govern compensation and total rewards strategies aligned with market competitiveness and institutional values
- Provide workforce analytics and insights to guide executive decision-making and organizational design
Compliance, Risk & Policy Governance :
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and international employment laws and regulations
- Partner with legal counsel, Church HRD, and external experts on complex employee relations and compliance matters
- Develop and govern HR policies to ensure consistency, scalability, and risk mitigation across a global workforce
Executive Partnership & Employee Relations :
- Serve as a strategic advisor to senior leaders on workforce challenges and organizational effectiveness
- Establish frameworks for performance management and employee relations that ensure fairness and consistency
- Coach and support leaders to strengthen accountability, engagement, and employee experience
Workforce Planning & Financial Stewardship :
- Oversee workforce planning and organizational design aligned with approved headcount and institutional priorities
- Govern compensation actions to ensure equity, consistency, and alignment with performance
- Lead HR’s role in budgeting and forecasting, providing strategic workforce and compensation insights
Ecclesiastical Alignment :
- Oversee the ecclesiastical clearance process in coordination with the Ecclesiastical Clearance Office (ECO)
- Provide reporting and guidance to support employment decisions and uphold institutional standards
- Partner with senior leadership on sensitive clearance matters with discretion and consistency
HR Team & Organizational Leadership:
- Lead, develop, and align HR team members to operate as strategic business partners
- Establish clear service delivery models, priorities, and performance expectations
- Represent BYU-Pathway in CES-HR, Church HRD, and related governance forums
Serve on committees and carry out assignments from those committees :
- Budget Committee.
- CES-HR Committee.
- Church HR Director Committee
- DMBA’s Employer Advisory Committee.
- Other Committees as assigned.
Education :
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Management, or a related field required.
- Master’s degree in Human Resource Management or a related field preferred
- HR certification (PHR, SHRM-CP, or similar) or progress toward certification.
Experience to be successful :
- 15+ years of progressive HR leadership experience with increasing strategic responsibility
- 10+ years of experience leading and developing HR teams in a complex organization
