DIRECTOR OF HUMAN RESOURCES AND PAYROLL
Cross Catholic Outreach is a Catholic ministry with an ecumenical staff of Catholic, Protestant,
and Eastern Orthodox believers working in unity to provide food, water, housing, education, orphan support, medical care, micro-enterprise, and disaster relief, and the love of our Lord Jesus Christ to the poorest of the poor in more than thirty countries around the world. Position Title: Director of Human Resources and Payroll
Department: Human Resources
Position Location: Hybrid or Remote (As determined by geographical location)
Position Type: Exempt (As determined by Human Resources) Position Grade: (As determined by Human Resources) Reports to: Chief Financial Officer
Position Summary:
The Director of Human Resources and Payroll is responsible for ensuring that all aspects of the
employee lifecycle — from recruiting through termination — are conducted accurately, compliantly, and in a manner that motivates and supports staff. This role safeguards the organization by
providing expertise and oversight on employment matters, ensuring adherence to legal and ethical standards.
As a strategic partner, the Director works closely with the executive team and management to guide and support personnel-related decisions, aligning HR practices with organizational goals. In
addition, the role provides support to employees at every level, equipping them to fulfill their duties effectively within the dynamics of the workplace.
Educational or Certification Requirements:
· Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Human Resources, or other applicable major required.
· PHR, SPHR, or SHRM certification preferred.
Experience Requirements:
· 7-10 years of experience in Human Resources, showing progressive growth.
· Nonprofit experience preferred.

· Feels a calling to serve God through serving Cross Catholic Outreach in this capacity.
· Believes in and supports the mission and ministry of Cross Catholic Outreach and agrees with the conduct policies and conduct expectations of Cross Catholic Outreach.
· Proven history in cultivating and leading high-performing teams to support the organization.
· Ability to provide leadership to executive and management teams though influence, persuasion, encouragement, and education.
· Meticulous with the ability to understand big picture concepts.
· Excellent written, analytical, and communication skills.
· Ability to maintain professionalism within a fast-paced, multi-priority environment.
· Strong time management skills with the ability to establish reasonable timelines and meet deadlines.
· Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite.
· Experience with HRIS, 401 (k), ATS, and payroll systems required.
· Experience with ADP preferred.
Duties:
· Be a consistent witness for Jesus Christ; maintain a courteous, Christ-like attitude when dealing with people both within and outside the organization, and lead devotional and other spiritual groups as appropriate.
· Must be able to operate with executives, management, and staff at all levels of the
organization while supporting organizational priorities and having a keen understanding of organizational psychology.
· Lead the Personnel Committee.
· Primary point of contact for all compliance, compensation, and benefit
broker/advisor/service provider relationships related to human resource matters.
· Oversees all aspects of compensation, benefits, and wellness (including technology systems that facilitate compensation and benefits within the ministry.)
· Acts as the Chairperson for the 401 (k) Investment, Personnel, and Benefit Committees.
· Primary internal expert in human resource-related compliance and regulatory matters, and oversees/develops policies and procedures.
· Leads employee investigations and discipline in conjunction with management toward employee rehabilitation and improvement.
· Facilitates coordination of all accident and injury reporting and associated workers’ compensation needs of the organization.
· Oversees the design and ensures implementation of training, onboarding, coaching, and mentoring, conflict resolution, and other items to prepare management and employees to be successful within their roles.
