Director of Information Technology
Position Overview
The Director of Information Technology provides strategic leadership, operational oversight, and architectural direction for the firm’s enterprise technology environment supporting 600+ attorneys and professional staff across multiple offices. Reporting to the Chief Technology Officer, this role is responsible for jointly establishing and executing the firm’s IT strategy, ensuring secure and compliant systems, delivering exceptional service, and driving innovations aligned with business objectives.
The Director of IT serves as a trusted advisor to firm leadership, balancing long-term strategic planning with hands-on oversight of Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365 architecture, including Intune, Microsoft Purview, and enterprise compliance systems. The role oversees IT operations, cybersecurity posture, governance frameworks, user experience, and a team of 2–5 technical professionals, while fostering a culture of service excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Salary Range: $130K - $160K

Leadership & Strategy

Develop and execute a multi-year infrastructure and user support strategic roadmap aligned with firm growth, risk management, and client service objectives.

Co-Lead with the CTO, technology governance, budgeting, and capital planning initiatives with strong emphasis on efficient use of funds.

Specifically in the areas of Networking, Computers and end user support, evaluate and recommend emerging technologies that enhance productivity, collaboration, and security.

Establish enterprise architecture standards for cloud, infrastructure, and endpoint management.

Ensure IT initiatives align with regulatory requirements, client expectations, and industry best practices.
Enterprise Cloud & Infrastructure Architecture
Provide executive oversight and architectural leadership for the firm’s Microsoft ecosystem, including:
Microsoft Azure

Mobile Device Management (MDM) and Mobile Application Management (MAM)

Standardization and automation of endpoint deployment
Microsoft Purview & Compliance Systems

Data Loss Prevention (DLP) framework

Insider Risk Management

Records management and retention policies

Communication compliance and audit readiness
Establish governance models that protect client confidentiality while enabling secure collaboration.
Network Infrastructure

Design and maintain firm-wide network architecture including LAN, WAN, VPN, and SD-WAN systems.

Oversee firewall configuration, network segmentation, and perimeter security controls.

Ensure high availability, redundancy, and performance across all network services.

Manage network monitoring, logging, and capacity planning.

Supervise vendor relationships for network hardware, circuits, and managed services.

Develop and maintain network disaster recovery and failover plans.
Cybersecurity, Risk & Compliance Leadership

Maintain enterprise cybersecurity strategy aligned with legal industry standards and client audit requirements. Standards such as CISv8, NIST, and CCPA

Champion a Zero Trust security model across identity, endpoints, and data.

Service Excellence & Client Experience
The Director of IT is responsible for cultivating a high-performance, service-oriented IT organization that reflects the professionalism expected in a law firm environment.

Establish white-glove service standards across IT operations.

Implement service delivery metrics and performance dashboards.

Ensure responsive, solution-oriented support for attorneys and professional staff.

Build strong partnerships with practice groups and administrative leadership.

Drive continuous improvement in user satisfaction and technology reliability.
Training & Technology Adoption

Develop and sponsor firm-wide technology training and adoption programs.

Ensure attorneys and staff are proficient in Microsoft 365 tools and secure collaboration practices. Including the development and implementation of a case document management exchange between the firm and external users.

Promote responsible data handling and compliance awareness.

Measure training effectiveness and drive improvement in technology utilization.
Operational Leadership & Team Management

Direct and mentor a team of 2–5 IT Analysts/Technicians.

Establish performance expectations focused on accountability, responsiveness, and technical excellence.

Oversee workload management, professional development, and succession planning.
-
Manage vendor relationships and external service providers.
-
Lead enterprise technology projects including cloud migrations, system upgrades, and modernization initiatives.
Financial & Governance Responsibilities

Develop and manage IT operating and capital budgets.

Oversee vendor contract negotiations and cost optimization.

Establish IT policies, standards, and governance documentation.

Monitor KPIs related to system uptime, service performance, security posture, and user satisfaction.

Provide regular executive reporting to firm leadership.
Qualifications
Required
-
Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, or a related field required

8–12+ years of progressive IT experience.

5+ years in a leadership or management role.

Microsoft Intune configuration and lifecycle management

Microsoft Purview compliance and risk solutions

Identity and access management strategy

Demonstrated leadership in cybersecurity and regulatory compliance.

Proven commitment to high-level customer service and executive communication.

Experience designing enterprise training and adoption programs.

Preferred experience supporting 500+ users in a professional services or law firm environment.
