    Director of Library Media Services
    Position Summary:
    The Director of Library Media Services provides district-level instructional leadership to ensure library media programs support student achievement aligned to the Oklahoma Academic Standards. The Director leads the development, implementation, and evaluation of library media services that strengthen literacy, research, digital citizenship, and inquiry-based learning across all content areas.
    This position collaborates with Curriculum & Instruction, school leadership, and teachers to ensure library media programs support high-quality Tier 1 instruction, MTSS, and college- and career-readiness. The Director also oversees library media operations, instructional materials, and digital resources to ensure equitable access to standards-aligned materials for all students.

    Essential Duties:
    Great Teaching & Learning (Instructional Infrastructure):
    Supports instruction, literacy, and academic outcomes
    Instructional Leadership
    • Provide leadership to ensure library media programs support implementation of the Oklahoma Academic Standards across all grade levels and content areas
    • Collaborate with Curriculum & Instruction to align library media services, instructional materials, and digital resources to district curriculum and academic priorities
    • Support schools in strengthening Tier 1 instruction, literacy development, research skills, and inquiry-based learning through effective use of library media resources
    • Lead district initiatives related to information literacy, media literacy, digital citizenship, and research practices
    • Provide guidance to schools on integrating library media resources into classroom instruction to improve student achievement
    • Participate in district curriculum planning, PLC structures, and data team processes to ensure alignment between library media services and instructional goals
    • Support implementation of district MTSS practices by ensuring access to instructional resources that support intervention and enrichment
    • Monitor the impact of library media programs on student achievement using district and state assessment data
    Instructional Materials and Resource Alignment
    • Lead the selection, adoption, and evaluation of instructional and library media materials to ensure alignment to the Oklahoma Academic Standards
    • Oversee district processes for textbook adoption, digital resources, and library collections with a focus on supporting high-quality instruction
    • Ensure equitable access to print and digital resources that support reading proficiency, academic vocabulary, and research skills
    • Maintain knowledge of emerging instructional technologies and digital learning tools that support student achievement

    Supports staff growth, coaching, and professional learning
    Professional Learning and Support for Schools
    • Design and deliver professional learning for teachers, administrators, and library media staff on effective use of instructional resources aligned to the Oklahoma Academic Standards
    • Support principals and instructional leaders in evaluating the effectiveness of library media programs in improving teaching and learning
    • Provide coaching and technical assistance to library media specialists to strengthen their role as instructional partners
    • Facilitate collaboration between library media staff, instructional coaches, and teachers to support literacy across the curriculum
    Great Culture (System Leaders):
    Supports collaboration, leadership, and district-wide alignment
    Collaboration and Leadership
    • Serve on district academic leadership teams, committees, and task forces related to curriculum, literacy, and instructional improvement
    • Collaborate with public libraries, higher education institutions, and professional organizations to support student learning
    • Represent the district in local, state, and national professional organizations related to library media, literacy, and instructional technology
    • Stay current on research and best practices related to literacy, library media, and instructional support
    • Collaborate with Information Technology to support digital resources, library systems, and instructional technology used in library media programs
    Great Systems (Support & Accountability):
    Supports operational effectiveness, compliance, and program sustainability
    • Program Oversight and Operations
    • Develop and maintain long-range plans for library media services aligned to district academic goals
    • Coordinate library media services across all schools to ensure consistency, quality, and compliance with district, state, and federal requirements
    • Oversee budgets for library media services and instructional materials
    • Provide reports and data related to library media services as required by district, state, and federal agencies
    • Seek and manage grants and external funding to support literacy, library media, and digital learning initiatives
    • Perform other duties as assigned in support of district goals and accountability structures.

    Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities):
    • Master's degree in Library and Information Studies, School Library Media, Education, or related field required
    • Valid Oklahoma School Library Media Specialist certification required
    • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in library media services, instructional support, or related educational leadership role
    • Knowledge of Oklahoma Academic Standards and instructional best practices
    • Strong knowledge of literacy development, research practices, and digital learning
    • Experience providing professional development for educators
    • Demonstrated leadership, communication, and collaboration skills
    • Experience analyzing data to support instructional decision making

    • Relevant experience may be substituted for formal education at a 2:1 ratio. Therefore for every 1 year of college lacking, 2 years of directly relevant experience may be substituted.

    Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities):
    • Experience at the district or site leadership level
    • Experience with MTSS, PLCs, or data-driven instruction
    • Experience with instructional materials adoption, textbook selection, or curriculum alignment
    • Knowledge of digital literacy, media literacy, and emerging instructional technologies
    • Experience managing budgets, grants, or program oversight

    Physical/Mental Requirements:
    • Must have adequate manual dexterity to write legibly and perform required duties on the computer.
    • Must have adequate visual acuity to read, interpret and transcribe written material and other required duties.
    • Requires normal range of hearing and clear speaking abilities to interact appropriately with others in person and on the telephone.
    • Physical agility, able to bend, stoop, sit on the floor, walk, reach and climb stairs.
    • Requires some stooping, bending, stretching and occasional lifting not to exceed 25 pounds.
    • Sitting for prolonged periods of time.
    • May periodically require work outside of normal business hours, including weekends, under sometimes. stressful conditions in order to meet business needs and strict deadlines.

    Work Environment:
    • Office duties will be performed in a well-lighted, climate controlled environment.
