The Position

Director of Marketing, Sequencing and Life Sciences

Mission: Drive the successful launch and scale up of the SBX platform inclusive of the strategy for consumables, assay content, and KAPA reagents to double our sequencing business by 2030.


This leadership role is accountable for driving the commercial success and market leadership of the Roche sequencing reagents and the groundbreaking Roche Axelios Sequencer within the dynamic US market. The Director will lead a high-performing organization, encompassing people leaders, marketing managers, and product managers, to achieve aggressive near-term business plans and secure Roche's position as the market leader in sequencing testing.

The Director is responsible for orchestrating the overarching US sequencing strategy, translating global vision into actionable operational plans that drive demand and maximize sales of our innovative sequencing solutions. This involves leading the development and execution of robust marketing plans, strategic launch programs, and effective commercialization initiatives across the portfolio.

A key focus includes meticulous financial oversight, including comprehensive budget management, accurate forecasting, and a keen analysis of marketing ROI to ensure optimized investment decisions. This position will continuously monitor market conditions, competitive landscapes, and future portfolio opportunities, driving business case development and strategic planning to ensure a competitive and future-ready product pipeline. The Director also champions the optimization of marketing asset utilization and the continuous improvement of all commercial processes.

Exceptional leadership and cross-functional collaboration are paramount. The Director will inspire and influence stakeholders across R&D, sales, medical affairs, and global teams, fostering alignment and ensuring seamless execution. This role carries significant responsibility for talent management, including hiring, training, performance management, and developing a highly skilled team capable of navigating the complexities of the sequencing market and delivering sustained growth.

Job Facts:

6 month deliverables:

  • Complete launch prep process

  • Drive funnel growth of early stage opportunities and robust set of mature opportunities prior to launch

  • Hire PM, SBX

  • Finalize pricing strategy

  • Stand up key internal collaborations with Roche functions to maximize success of sequencing assays

  • Drive success of early evaluator program in key accounts


12 month deliverables:

  • Achieve 2026 financial plan inclusive of instrument placements goal

  • Develop and nurture key rolodex of KOLs and critical customers

  • Refine customer segmentation and SBX placement strategy for 5-year plan through 2030

  • Refine content strategy to maximize instrument throughput

  • Refine KAPA strategy to grow base business and maximize SBX synergies


Ongoing responsibilities:

  • Serves as a member of the Molecular Labs Marketing Leadership Team

  • Responsible for Product Marketing of the Sequencing portfolio, including SBX, SBX consumables and content, and the sample prep products

  • Directs the strategic development of the annual Integrated Business Plan. Responsible for the assessment of existing and potential markets, product lifecycle planning, coordination of technical product development, development of strategic product strategies, launch and promotional activities.

  • Directs the collection and analysis of market research to support the product areas and support product planning and the development process. Drives decision making and achieve objectives. Leads the analysis of industry trends, competitive developments, and business performance, to define key strategic issues, appropriate long term business goals, and strategy alternatives.

  • May develop and communicate a strategy for the development of “best practices” in marketing research, including on-going development of standardized metrics, methods and benchmarks to assess concept and product performance, customer requirements, and/or brand equity.

  • Develops corporate short and long-term goals, and objectives for specific area of responsibility.

  • May develop production and marketing strategies and tactics to ensure effective product placement relative to market opportunity, working closely with product development for a specific product, brand, or product area over its entire life cycle.

  • Determines the profitability and viability of targeted segments, new products or product enhancements.

  • Create and drive strong linkage to other functional areas, business areas, and colleagues, to ensure achievement of objectives with successful stakeholder management and effective resolution of issues.

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key customers and other key external individuals.

  • Communicate to provide input and guide products/segments this may include new products and product launches. Manage the commercialization of products including the identification of the appropriate target group(s) and addressing the needs of all customers.

  • Recruit, hire, train, and provide continuous coaching and feedback necessary to develop a high performance marketing team which may include people in multiple locations.

  • Ensure the RD Quality Policy is understood, implemented, and maintained in the organization. Establishes and maintains an adequate organizational structure, provides adequate resources, and establishes appropriate management controls to ensure the sales group is suitable and effective to satisfy regulatory requirements and the company’s quality policy. Ensures a work culture committed to compliance, quality, and customer focus. Ensure 100% compliance with Good promotional practices, AdvaMed guidelines and the RD quality policy.

Who You Are:

  • You hold a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, or scientific or business related field.

  • You hold 7 years of progressive marketing experience or equivalent work experience.

  • You hold 3 years of marketing leadership experience.

  • Ability to lead and direct employees

  • Proven ability to motivate and influence in a positive manner and create a culture of inclusivity and performance

  • Proven record of multi-tasking and ability to handle a high pressure environment with significant timeline pressures.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in sequencing related subject or business

  • 10 years relevant marketing or equivalent experience with demonstrated success preferred with health care industry

  • More than 5 years management experience with demonstrated strong competency and proven track record in marketing management and leadership

  • Knowledge of technical and market issues/factors

  • Global experience preferred

  • Knowledge of digital tools and how to utilize these to drive marketing strategy

  • Proven ability to lead through ambiguity

  • Experience building long range strategic plans and mobilizing them to execution

Location:

  • This position is based onsite in our Indianapolis campus, however we will also consider onsite in our San Diego, CA campus.

  • No relocation benefits are provided for this role

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of Indiana is $147,400 - $273,700. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
