Director of MSN Entry Program

This is a College of Graduate Nursing Administration-level position within Western University of Health Science and is offered in conjunction with a faculty appointment. Together, the administrative role of Director of MSN-Entry Program (PCN A03955) and the faculty role (PCN F03301) comprise a full-time position (1.0 FTE).

The salary range listed in this posting represents the total compensation for the combined Administrative and Faculty responsibilities. Please refer to the corresponding job posting under our Faculty jobs section for details on the additional assignment.

The Director is responsible for the implementation and coordination of the MSN-Entry Program. The Director will report to the Site Dean.

Required Qualifications
Education:
  • Must possess a Master’s degree in Nursing from an accredited institution.


Experience:
  • A minimum of one year experience in higher education or nursing administration as program director, department chair or similar, and have one year of full-time teaching experience in nursing. State board of nursing approved for teaching in a required subject area.

Licensure:
  • Must possess a current RN license.

Education:
  • A doctorate in Nursing or related field.
Essential Job Duties

Key Responsibilities
Leadership:
  • The Director works with a wide variety of educational and health care partners to facilitate the successful implementation of the MSN-E program. The MSN-E Director will assist the college to meet its mission and goals.

Key Responsibilities
Administration:
  • Represents the College of Graduate Nursing as a member of the university community via committee membership and service.
  • Develops, implements, evaluates and advances the College’s educational, scholarly, and public service activities and programs.
  • Suggests new policies or revises existing policies to meet the structural needs for the college unit, the program, and to meet the needs of students.
  • Ensures all legal and accreditation requirements for the MSN-E program are met.
  • Works with the Director of Assessment to complete accreditation reports, BRN annual reports, and required documentation for students to be eligible to take the NCLEX exam for licensure.
  • Develops and oversees a systematic planning process to facilitate and improve the achievement of the MSN-E program to meet its goals and objectives.
  • Maintains classroom space and clinical facilities in good condition and insures that all safety standards are observed.
  • Creates, implements, and evaluates the orientation program for preceptors and non-faculty teaching assistants (nurse preceptors).
  • Maintains records and oversees the communication processes with clinical facilities.
  • Ensures that all students have met the required immunizations and health screenings prior to beginning the clinical experience.

Key Responsibilities
Financial Management:
  • Assists the Dean and Director of Operations with the annual budget for the MSN-Entry Program. Is fiscally responsible and participates in securing additional resources for program viability.
  • Identifies capital equipment needs.
  • Seeks funding from external stakeholders to support the continued development of the College’s programs.
  • Seeks partnership opportunities, (i.e. clinical skills lab) negotiates contracts and develops other entrepreneurial activities in support of the College’s mission.

Key Responsibilities
Human Resource Management:
  • Participates in the screening and selection of faculty and staff.
  • Develops programs to retain qualified faculty and staff.
  • Ensures that ongoing faculty and staff development programs are conducted.
  • Participates in the annual review of faculty, staff and college administrators as appropriate.

Key Responsibilities
Student Development/Services:
  • Encourages student involvement in the evaluation and development of the College’s academic program.
  • Facilitates the lines of communication between the administration, faculty and students to insure a culture of mutual respect and professionalism.
  • Represents faculty and administrators at student events.
  • Assists with admissions interviews and on going recruitment efforts for the college.
  • Administers standards for academic performance and progression and standards for student conduct.
  • Advocates the principles of learner -centered educational approaches, and advocates for students to insure the availability of resources needed to achieve successful student learning and professional development.

Key Responsibilities
Teaching:
  • Teaches the didactic and clinical portions of the curriculum, per BRN approved content area.

Other Responsibilities:
  • Assists with the continuous quality improvement plan for the curriculum.
  • Monitors and assesses formative and summative indicators of student and faculty achievement; analyzes data and information to provide for the continuous and systematic evaluation of the MSN-Entry program.
  • Conducts an end-of-year review of all activities related to the continuous quality improvement plan.
  • Represents the College of Graduate Nursing at various meetings involving professional and educational associations, governmental agencies, hospitals and other health care delivery organizations, etc.
  • Participates in professional societies and associations.
  • Performs other duties and projects as assigned.

Work Schedule
  • This position is located in Lebanon, Oregon and requires a minimum of 3 days per week on campus.
  • Hours generally Mon-Fri 8 AM to 5 PM with flexibility to support program activities that take place outside of working hours.
