Director of Nursing Behavior Health

A respected local healthcare organization is seeking an experienced and mission-driven Director of Behavioral Health to lead and grow its behavioral health services within a 245-bed acute care hospital, including a dedicated 28-bed behavioral health unit. This is a high-impact leadership role for a professional passionate about advancing quality care, building strong teams, and improving patient outcomes in a fast-paced hospital environment.

About the Role

As Director of Behavioral Health, you will provide strategic and operational leadership for the behavioral health unit, ensuring excellence in clinical care, regulatory compliance, and interdisciplinary collaboration. You will play a key role in shaping program direction, mentoring leaders and staff, and aligning behavioral health services with the organization’s broader mission and goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and oversight for daily operations of the behavioral health unit
  • Foster a culture of patient-centered, high-quality, and evidence-based care
  • Lead, mentor, and develop clinical and leadership staff
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and safety standards
  • Collaborate with medical staff, nursing leadership, and hospital administration
  • Drive performance improvement, quality initiatives, and service growth

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of leadership experience in behavioral health or a related clinical setting
  • Experience in an acute care or inpatient environment strongly preferred
  • Master’s degree preferred (behavioral health, healthcare administration, nursing, social work, or related field)
  • Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills
