JOB SUMMARY
The Director of Nursing serves as a transformational leader responsible for advancing nursing practice and clinical excellence across inpatient acute care services. This role is pivotal in shaping strategic priorities, driving innovation, and fostering a culture of safety, quality, and engagement. The Director partners with senior executives, physician leaders, and interdisciplinary teams to deliver exceptional patient outcomes and position the organization as a leader in healthcare excellence.
The Director serves as a key architect of strategy and execution for the assigned area of responsibility. This role translates organizational vision into actionable plans, ensuring alignment with system priorities and clinical excellence. The Director makes critical operational decisions, drives achievement of strategic objectives, and recommends policy and structural changes to advance performance and outcomes.
Responsibilities include:

Leading the design and implementation of initiatives that deliver on annual goals and long-term objectives.

Overseeing all aspects of departmental operations, including staffing, workflow optimization, budget stewardship, and resource allocation.

Providing mentorship and guidance to subordinate leaders, fostering accountability, resolving complex challenges, and ensuring operational continuity.

Managing a large, multifaceted organization or functional area, often with multiple managers or supervisors reporting directly to the role.

Serving as a trusted advisor and thought partner to senior executives, influencing decisions that shape patient care delivery and organizational success.
Essential Functions of the Role

Strategic Leadership: Define and execute nursing strategies aligned with organizational goals, ensuring readiness for future growth and system priorities.

Operational Excellence: Oversee clinical operations for assigned inpatient units, optimizing workflows, resource utilization, and patient throughput while maintaining fiscal accountability.

Quality & Safety: Champion evidence-based practices, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement initiatives to achieve superior quality metrics and patient experience scores.

Culture & Engagement: Build high-performing teams through mentorship, succession planning, and professional development, fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment.

Innovation & Transformation: Lead adoption of new care models, technology solutions, and process redesign to enhance efficiency and elevate care delivery.

Executive Collaboration: Serve as a strategic partner to the CEO, CMO, and senior leadership, influencing decisions that impact clinical operations and organizational performance.
Key Success Factors

Education: Master’s degree required, DNP preferred.

Experience: 5 years of progressive leadership in acute care nursing; prior director-level experience preferred. Proven success in leading large teams and complex operations.
