Director of Operations

Description


The Director of Operations is a hands‑on leader responsible for overseeing and scaling all operational functions, including supply chain, purchasing, inventory management, logistics, warehousing, fulfillment, production coordination, quality systems, and regulatory compliance. This role is accountable for the on‑time, accurate delivery of products, meeting customer requirements, and establishing performance metrics, forecasting, and operational targets.
In addition to day‑to‑day execution, the role leads the development of new operational capabilities that support revenue growth, including our own 3PL services, drop‑shipping programs, Rx distribution, and other scalable commerce initiatives aligned with company strategy. The Senior Director partners closely with Sales, Marketing, and Finance to ensure operational alignment and builds a simple, repeatable, and scalable operating platform supported by a high‑performing team.

Key Responsibilities


  • Lead, and develop a high‑performing operations team, including onsite and remote employees, by coaching and mentoring managers to strengthen leadership capability and decision‑making.
  • Establish bench strength and succession readiness across the operations organization to ensure leadership continuity and scalable growth.
  • Drive operational performance and excellence by establishing and improving KPIs across all process paths, fostering a culture of ownership and continuous improvement, ensuring SOP implementation and adherence, and developing documented processes that increase efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Maintain knowledge of customer compliance requirements in relation to product specifications and shipping.
  • Implement and manage operational reporting and visibility through KPI dashboards and reporting rhythms, including weekly inventory and supply‑chain reports and monthly KPI reviews covering warehouse and freight costs, fulfillment performance, quality, and inbound/outbound logistics, with trend analysis and actionable improvement recommendations.
  • Establish and enforce scalable, repeatable SOPs across operational functions, ensuring cross‑functional alignment, consistent execution, and adherence while strengthening supply‑chain resiliency and risk‑mitigation strategies.
  • Oversee regulatory compliance and audit readiness, including pet product and Rx distribution requirements, by maintaining compliant infrastructure (licensing, storage controls, regulatory processes), documentation integrity, and up‑to‑date knowledge of customer compliance requirements related to product specifications and shipping.
  • Lead demand forecasting, supply planning, and vendor management by integrating sales forecasts, retailer consumption data, sales history, and vendor capabilities to maintain optimal inventory levels and support systematic customer order management (EDI and other channels).
  • Optimize inventory performance and working capital by closely monitoring inventory levels, ensuring 99%+ inventory accuracy, identifying underperforming areas, and improving inventory turns and landed cost through data‑driven analysis and corrective actions.
  • Oversee end‑to‑end customer order management and systems enablement, including EDI and other order channels, by leading ongoing automation initiatives, improving processes, and optimizing ERP utilization (e.g., Sage 100, Scanco or similar platforms).
  • Build and maintain scalable operational infrastructure, including drop‑shipping capabilities and system integrations to support vendor and retail partnerships, while maintaining and enhancing the Quality Management System (QMS).
  • Drive continuous quality improvement and operational resilience by identifying and implementing quality enhancements across product lines while strengthening supply‑chain risk mitigation and resiliency strategies.
  • Evaluate and execute new operational revenue opportunities, ensuring all initiatives are scalable, operationally sound, and financially viable, while aligning execution with overall company strategy.
  • Develop and scale 3PL and commerce management services, including pricing models, onboarding processes, SLAs, and profitability controls
  • Own operational financial performance by managing budgets, improving gross margin through efficiency gains, reducing operating expenses as a percentage of revenue, and building strategic supplier partnerships that drive cost savings and increased value through effective vendor negotiation.
  • Represent the supply chain and operations function in cross‑functional initiatives, partnering with Sales, Marketing, E‑commerce, and Finance to support new product launches, market expansions, and overall growth objectives.
  • Oversee operational reports and tasks are completed accurately and on time for end of month close.
  • Owns the operational budget and assists in the annual budget planning process.


Skills, Knowledge and Expertise


Miniumum-7 years of relevant operations experience in a consumer goods manufacturing and distribution environment
BA/BS in relevant field
Demonstrated organizational, change management, and project management skills.
Demonstrated ability to manage in-house and remote team members to those priorities with the most strategic value for the organization.
Demonstrated analytical, problem solving, and decision-making skills.
Ability to work as part of a collaborative team on accurate planning and forecasting.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to present data findings.
Experience with Amazon and Chewy is a plus.
Location: Parker, CO. Hybrid position 3 days in office 2 days remote
Ability to travel 20%.

Pay range and compensation package
This position is eligible for company benefits including but not limited to medical, dental and vision coverage, life and short-term and long-term disability coverage, paid time off, 401K participation and company match, and more. The pay range for the position is $110,000-$150,000 based on experience.
