The Director of Purchasing and Material Control is a senior-level position responsible for overseeing the day-to-day aspects of the Company's sourcing, purchasing and material management. This role ensures a cost-effective and reliable supply chain that meets organizational goals, minimizes expenses, and supports timely work flow.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Develop and implement overarching purchasing and materials management strategies, policies, and procedures that align with the company's financial and operational goals.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, support contract negotiations to secure optimal pricing and terms, and continuously evaluate supplier performance based on cost, quality, and delivery.
  • Oversee purchasing budgets and cost reduction initiatives. Conduct market and spend analysis to identify cost-saving opportunities and report on purchasing activity and performance to executive leadership.
  • Implement and manage local inventory control systems to ensure optimal stock levels, prevent shortages, and minimize carrying costs. This includes overseeing location-specific logistics.
  • Recruit, train, and manage a team of purchasing and material control personnel. Set performance targets and foster a high-performance culture.
  • Work closely with other departments, such as operations, sales, finance, safety, engineering, and quality assurance, to understand their material needs and ensure alignment across the organization.
  • Ensure all purchasing activities comply with company policies, legal requirements, and ethical standards. Develop risk mitigation plans to address potential supply chain disruptions.
  • Evaluate and improve existing procurement processes using data analytics, technology, and automation to drive efficiency.
Requirements:

Skills and Qualifications

Education: A bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred. An MBA or professional certifications (e.g., APICS CPIM or CSCP) can be a plus.

Experience: 7 to 10+ years of progressive experience in supply chain management, purchasing, and material control, with several years in a leadership or supervisory role.

Technical skills: Proficiency with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems and procurement software is essential.

Analytical skills: Strong ability to analyze data, forecast trends, and make informed purchasing decisions.

Leadership and communication skills: Excellent interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills to effectively manage teams and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.

Problem-solving: A proactive and strategic mindset for problem-solving in a fast-paced environment.
