Director of Quality

Job Summary:

The Director of Quality will create a vision and execute a plan to lead Westinghouse Outdoor Power Equipment to the next level of quality performance. Success is achieved by strengthening quality culture, improving process performance & delivering YoY improvements in quality outcomes. The Director of Quality will direct and drive continuous quality improvement efforts for all company and supplier facilities including implementation and coordination of programs, procedures, and initiatives that meet quality standards, cost control, and customer satisfaction.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Establishing a quality culture

Develop, implement, and communicate a clear strategic vision for quality to maximize alignment and engagement, promoting continuous improvement
Oversee organizational quality assurance department and compliance department to ensure delivery of high-quality products that meet the customers’ needs and regulatory requirements
Establish the direction for the development and administration of the company’s quality assurance and quality control programs
Lead a zero defects mindset in all daily activities, programs, and initiatives
Lead supplier qualification and performance improvement
Develop and maintain an appropriate supplier auditing program that ensures suppliers continue to maintain approved processes, methods, and tools to meet Westinghouse quality standards
Ensure SQE’s have the skills, knowledge, and tools to get to the root cause of quality failures and find solutions to eliminate potential future defects
Plan, coordinate, and/or manage the quality assurance (QA) activities associated with all New Product Development (NPD) programs
Other related duties as assigned

Required Skills/Abilities:

Experience managing a quality and compliance organization
Experience working with overseas manufacturing and managing supplier quality and product inspection
Problem-solving skills
Strong decision-making skills.
Detail-oriented work ethic with a high degree of accuracy
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Ability to translate technical information to all audiences

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
Working knowledge of statistical analysis techniques
Experience with portable generators, inverters, pressure washers, 4 stroke gas engines, battery technology and outdoor equipment is a strong plus.
Working with regulatory agencies such as CSA, UL, EPA, and CARB.
Working experience with Asian manufacturing.
Basic knowledge of electrical systems and wiring diagrams
Knowledge of relevant manufacturing /quality processes and tooling such as stamping, bending, welding, powder coating, casting, plastic molding, assembly, and machining

Physical Requirements:

Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds at times.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Hire and supervise direct reports, providing guidance on day-to-day tasks, training, time management, evaluations, and performance management
Establish training programs for quality performance education
Lead, manage and direct oversea quality teams
Develop, improve, and communicate quality excellence standards
