Job Summary:
This role leads a diverse portfolio of operational departments, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant transportation, support services, and recreational operations across Yellowstone. It is responsible for strategic planning, cross-functional collaboration, and driving operational excellence while supporting both guest experiences and employee services.

The Details:

Position Type: Full-Time, Year-Round
Schedule: Typical schedule is 40 hours, 5 days/per week (may include weekends, evenings, and holidays)

Responsibilities:
  • Provide leadership and oversight for multiple operational areas, including Support Services, Transportation, Marina, and Corrals, ensuring effective daily operations and staff training.
  • Develop and manage a comprehensive fleet maintenance program, including cost forecasting, lifecycle planning, and vehicle compliance with sustainability standards.
  • Lead financial planning efforts, including annual budgets and capital expenditure plans for the department.
  • Oversee vehicle specification, procurement, and lifecycle management across all departments.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with HR, Operations, Marketing, Engineering, and Sustainability to support employee transportation, guest services, and environmental initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements (DOT, Coast Guard, National Park Service, and state agencies) and maintain accurate records and reporting.
  • Manage relationships with unionized employees, third-party contractors, and key external stakeholders, including government agencies.
  • Conduct facility inspections and implement continuous improvement practices to maintain safety, operational standards, and organizational effectiveness.
Qualifications:

Required:

  • Full-service hospitality management experience with five to seven years of senior level/executive leadership experience.
  • Minimum of five years of fleet management experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience in technical writing and public speaking. The Director must communicate effectively with both corporate and field employees to identify opportunities to minimize any negative impacts of Xanterra’s business practices.
  • Represent as a thought leader regarding environmental issues and eco-tourism, and must possess outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, including experience interacting with the media. This person must demonstrate political sensibility and be keenly sensitive to various constituencies and the diplomacy appropriate for each.
  • The Director must be highly organized and have strong administrative and leadership skills, including experience with operating budgets and all related accountabilities.
  • Experience in strategic and long-term planning.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the National Park Service’s “NPS-48 Concessions Management Guidelines”.
  • Familiarity with laws and regulations as they relate to the hospitality industry, and an ability to keep abreast of this developing and complex field.
  • Position requires a valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to live in a remote, seasonally cold, rural environment
Preferred (if applicable):
  • Passion for National Parks, customer and employee experiences, and embracing the history of Yellowstone.
  • Experience with corral, marina, and/or winter recreation operations.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in related field.
Physical Requirements include:
  • Ability to sit for long periods of time.
  • Ability to work in a higher altitude environment with changing weather conditions and temperatures.
  • Ability to climb stairs.
  • Ability to lift boxes of materials in weight up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to walk, reach, kneel, crawl, lay on stomach, and/or stand as necessary to perform job duties as noted.
