The School District of West Salem, located just minutes from La Crosse in the beautiful Coulee Region of Western Wisconsin, is seeking a collaborative and innovative Director of Technology to lead the district’s technology vision and operations.
Our three schools are located on a connected 100-acre campus on the edge of town, where students in grades K–12 participate in a 1:1 digital learning environment using MacBooks or iPads. The Director of Technology provides strategic leadership and hands-on direction for all aspects of district technology services and educational technology integration. This role works closely with the technology team, integration specialists, building principals, and district leadership to ensure that technology enhances teaching, learning, and operations across the district.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage all district technology initiatives, infrastructure, and systems.
Oversee network design, maintenance, and optimization to ensure reliability and security.
Manage district-wide data security, backups, and disaster recovery systems.
Coordinate and implement large-scale infrastructure, hardware, and software projects.
Support instructional technology integration that aligns with curriculum goals and enhances student learning.
Supervise and support technology staff, fostering collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
Plan and manage technology budgets, procurement, and vendor relationships.
Provide leadership in developing long-term technology strategies that support the district’s mission and vision.
Qualifications
Minimum: Associate degree in a computer-related field.
Demonstrated experience in troubleshooting software, hardware, and network connectivity issues.
Proven leadership and supervisory experience within an IT environment.
Strong understanding of life cycle management of hardware and software, procurement processes, and vendor partnerships.
Ability to plan, coordinate, and successfully execute complex technology projects.
Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
Experience in K–12 educational settings.
Familiarity with Apple device management, Google Workspace for Education, and cloud-based systems.
Understanding of cybersecurity practices and data privacy regulations in education.
