Lakeview School District is located on the south side of Battle Creek, an economically and culturally diverse community of 53,000 located in south-central lower Michigan. The Lakeview School District is a highly respected, dynamic public school system that seeks implementation of meaningful change with the goal of responsibly restructuring the District's educational programs.


Lakeview School District is a comprehensive school district serving approximately 4,000 students in grades K-12, with 500 faculty and support staff, and an annual General Fund Budget of $56 million. The District comprises six school buildings (four K-4 elementary buildings, one 5-8 middle school building, and one high school) as well as one Administration Office that also serves as alternative education, and special education services.


Job Summary


The Director of Technology is responsible for all aspects of designing, planning, implementing, and streamlining a shared vision for the meaningful and cohesive use of technology for all district stakeholders. To be an effective Director of Technology, you are expected to be the IT visionary leader with a holistic understanding of all district-wide technological workflows, continually offering IT solutions to improve district operations and support the education of our students, while maintaining an outstanding level of customer service.


Minimum Qualifications


  • Demonstration of Project Management skills - planning, prioritization, and coordination of multiple complex IT-related projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work in a diverse environment with the expectation of continued learning and affirmation of colleagues of differing social identities, such as race, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, etc.
  • Demonstration of excellent customer service skills is required, including, but not limited to:
    • Prompt response times, Patience, Empathy, Kindness, Humility, Knowledge of systems that are supported
  • Ability to be resourceful in finding solutions and answering questions
  • Demonstration of self-directed work, either independently or as part of a team
  • Observes inefficiencies in district operation and works with the team to develop more efficient and/or cost-effective technical solutions
  • Ability to interpret highly technical information and clearly convey this information to non-technical stakeholders
  • Strong interpersonal and boundary skills with the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing on a one-to-one basis and with groups of all sizes and at all levels of the organization
  • Ability to provide demonstration, teaching, or coaching for hardware and software systems supported by the district
  • Ability to listen and draw out necessary information from customers, and ask critical questions
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding all district data and personnel issues
  • Demonstration of continuous learning in IT-related systems
  • Demonstration of using data to drive strategic decisions
  • Ability to work nights and weekends in highly urgent situations
  • Understanding of what it means to be a good ambassador for the organization
  • Willingness to support end-user equipment such as desktops, laptops, interactive displays, projectors, and other various entry-level systems as needed
  • Broad familiarity with modern networking, datacenter / hybrid-cloud, and cybersecurity solutions
  • Broad familiarity with Google Workspace or Microsoft 365


Preferred Qualifications


Candidates may not meet all preferred qualifications, but an ideal candidate would possess as many as possible, providing the Lakeview School District with flexibility to delegate responsibilities to the rest of the Technology Services team.


  • A degree in an IT-related field, or certification(s) in an IT-related field, or a combination of the two
    • PMP, CCNA, CCNP, VMWare, AWS, or any equivalent hybrid-cloud certifications are very applicable
  • Proven experience leading an IT team
  • Experience with budget forecasting and managing a budget
  • Experience with the following systems/applications/equipment:
    • Cisco Routing and Switching or equivalent
    • Cisco Wireless Infrastructure or equivalent
    • Cisco Firewalls, and/or Web Filters, or equivalent
    • VMWare vCenter and vSphere, Hyper-V, or equivalent hypervisor
    • Windows Server
      • Active Directory, Print Management, System Center Configuration Manager or Intune, DHCP, DNS
    • Avigilon Video Surveillance System or equivalent
    • Avigilon Access Control System or equivalent
    • Phone System installation, configuration, and maintenance
    • Experience working with a Student Information System (SIS)
    • Experience interpreting programming languages such as PowerShell
  • Ability to data mine and extrapolate data in meaningful ways
  • Experience with the E-Rate process and/or applying for grants

  • Experience operating from a work-order system


Compensation Package
