This is a hands‑on leadership role responsible for fleet operations, driver supervision, safety compliance, and customer‑focused service for students, families, faculty, and staff.

What You’ll Do
As Director of Transportation, you will provide strategic leadership while overseeing day‑to‑day operations for Beacon College’s transportation services.
Leadership & Operations
- Lead the planning, implementation, and continuous improvement of all transportation programs
- Manage daily scheduling, operational workflows, and departmental budget
- Supervise drivers and transportation staff, including performance management and annual evaluations
- Develop and maintain transportation policies, procedures, and administrative guidelines
Fleet & Safety Management
- Oversee fleet planning, vehicle utilization, replacement planning, purchasing, and licensing
- Ensure full compliance with FDOT, DOT, CDL, and College safety standards
- Manage the DOT Drug & Alcohol Testing and Clearinghouse programs
- Lead driver training programs to ensure regulatory compliance and safe operations
Compliance & Reporting
- Coordinate required reporting with FDOT and other local, state, and federal agencies
- Stay current on transportation laws, regulations, and best practices
- Maintain professional relationships with school districts, government agencies, and transportation associations
Service & Emergency Response
- Address transportation requests, concerns, and service-related inquiries with professionalism
- Respond promptly to emergency or after‑hours transportation matters
- Participate in committees, councils, and task forces related to transportation services
What We’re Looking For
Required Qualifications
- Education: Associate’s degree or equivalent professional experience
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years of transportation-related experience, including supervisory or leadership responsibility
- Licensing & Credentials:
- Valid Florida driver’s license with acceptable MVR
- Class A or B CDL with Passenger endorsement
- Current DOT medical card
- Minimum 2 years of verifiable CDL driving experience
- Ability to pass FDOT-required pre-employment drug testing and DOT Clearinghouse requirements
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a higher education or educational environment
- Background managing transportation programs serving diverse populations
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong understanding of federal, state, and local transportation regulations
- Experience with routing systems, fleet operations, budgeting, and maintenance oversight
- Comfort using fleet management software and standard office technology
- Excellent communication skills across diverse audiences
- Proven ability to prioritize, manage time effectively, and lead with accountability
- Service-oriented mindset with a collaborative leadership style
- Availability for evening, weekend, and emergency on‑call duties as needed
