The Director of University Collections is responsible for the overall direction and performance of the University Collections Department, including the recovery of financial assets for the Board of Regents of the University of Oklahoma, Cameron University, and Rogers State University, the enforcement of contracts and leases, and securing the Board's rights to collect the balances that are legally due and owing from students, vendors, partners, and tortfeasors. This position must provide strategic direction for the department regarding collection activities, techniques for recovery, policies for repayment plans, litigation, and postjudgment collections, and balancing student/vendor relationships with recovery of Board of Regents assets.

As an attorney, the Director will initiate litigation when necessary and handle all aspects of the cases for which he or she is responsible. He or she will work under the supervision and oversight of the Office of Legal Counsel regarding strategies for collections and litigation and will submit performance and compliance reports to the Office of Legal Counsel on a quarterly basis, as requested.

The Director will ensure that the department runs efficiently and profitably by managing the personnel, cases & accounts, and by creating and complying with the department's budget, and performing other duties as may be required by the position, or as may be needed to assist the Office of Legal Counsel.


Job Requirements


Required Education and Experience:
Juris Doctorate (JD) from an American Bar Association (ABA) law school, AND:

  • 60 months of licensed legal practice, with 36 months of civil litigation or comparable in court experience. 36 months of managerial or supervisory experience.

Skills:

  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, Access, PowerPoint).
  • Must be detailed oriented for accuracy of date and information.
  • Must be articulate with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Highly organized and ability to manage high volume of cases and collection accounts efficiently and effectively.
  • Ability to communicate well and build a rapport with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Must possess good analytical, research, and legal writing skills.
  • Must have impeccable integrity, be dependable and strong work ethic.
  • Able to work in fast paced environment with minimal to no supervision.
  • Must be comfortable in court settings (trials, small claims, motion dockets, FED dockets, asset hearings, claims for exemptions, interpleaders, etc.).
  • Must be proficient with online research (Westlaw, Lexis, Nexis, and Skip tracing).

Certifications:

  • Current Oklahoma Bar License (or eligible for prompt admission to the Oklahoma Bar).
  • Valid Driver's License.

  • Experience in bankruptcy proceedings and tax law.
  • Experience with preparing financial performance reports/presentations.
  • 3+ years of managerial or supervisory experience.
  • 3+ years of civil litigation or comparable court experience.

  • Oklahoma Rules of Civil Procedure (Title 12).
  • Oklahoma Administrative Procedures Act.
  • Supervision: Team Leader, Oversees University Collections Department.
