Director/Editor

Job Overview

I am seeking someone with a film/visual media background with knowledge of livestreaming and video editing to coordinate the one time processes of setup of audio and visual elements for a new livestream broadcast (with extra payment), and then provide ongoing director and editor work for the weekly video segments that will be generated from the stream (with a weekly minimum payment). The ideal candidate will be a full time student or worker in or around Boston, MA who consistently has some hours of free time each week to put towards this role. The vast majority of the work would be asynchronous and flexible, with only video upload dates and a short weekly meeting having a set time. I'm looking more for a partner in this venture than an employee, and want someone who's creative input I value as much as their time.

Once the partner is selected and we agree to fair terms we will meet regularly throughout the summer from June to September to make decisions for the physical studio setup and plan for the livestream. Then the goal is to begin livestreaming regularly in early October, and work out any changes to the content and work-flow over the next 6 months until the end of March of 2027. At that point we can decide on terms for a perpetual partnership, or you will be free to move on from the project.

A business plan for the livestream and details about the content will be provided during the interview process. It will focus on media analysis, discussion and review for a well-known franchise. All will be explained and questions answered as we go through the interview process.

Payment

Initially I can offer a $100 per week minimum payment with an additional $100 each month for hitting viewership and growth targets we will work to establish together. Any on-site work at the studio will be an additional $100 per visit. Any transportation and will be reimbursed for any meeting or studio session and a meal will always be provided. Ultimately, the bulk of compensation will come in an agreement for the Director to receive 50% of any Youtube Ad-Sense revenue with no cap or limit. This could become extremely lucrative if the channel grows as expected, and the director would be a major part of making that happen.

Responsibilities

I'm open to a discussion of defining the scope of your role and how much you'd like to take on vs eventually delegating to me as producer or eventually another team member who may assist with editing when needed as well as handling the web/social media side of things. The most important responsibility early on will be bringing flexibility and good ideas for how we work with what we have to get this livestream off the ground and thriving.

  • Review the concept for the Livestream and provide creative input that will be incorporated
  • Advise and help implement the ideal A/V equipment for the studio once we agree on what will work best for the concept (cameras, microphones, audio mixers, headset etc.)
  • Assist in the physical setup of the studio (Will be additionally compensated with extra payment for any on-site work)
  • Direct the look and feel of the stream to enhance the concept and unique visual style.
  • Edit footage from stream into standard video segments, full episodes, and viral shorts including audio mixing and any bumpers/insert clips
  • Post videos to the channel and track monetization, video performance and channel growth.
  • Create a manual and instruct any assistant editors on how to match the proprietary style you develop.

Requirements

I am willing to be flexible on formal education and experience requirements given the startup nature of this opportunity. If you have a genuine interest and aptitude for being a creative partner and can handle the directing/editing that is required, then you could be right for this position.

  • Any experience editing video, audio and the mechanics of livestreaming
  • Understanding of the basics of film: shot composition, camera angles, sound mixing etc.
  • Desire to cultivate and express a compatible personal visual style
  • Good time management and an efficient enough editing workflow to meet weekly upload targets/enough free time to commit to a consistent editing schedule
  • A keen sense of how to make videos go viral and perform well in retention
  • A working knowledge of the tech and hardware needed and best practices for a livestream studio setup and the desire to troubleshoot and learn new technology or programs needed for your role.
  • Aspirations to be a core part of the project and reap the rewards of channel growth

Pay: $500.00 - $5,000.00 per month
