256 Trucking LLC is a growing transportation company based in Huntsville, Alabama. We haul a wide variety of freight, including flatbed, Landoll, oversize, overweight, equipment, and specialized freight. We are looking for a dependable Dispatcher to join our team and help manage daily freight operations as our company continues to grow.

This is a great opportunity for someone with trucking dispatch experience, but we are also willing to train the right candidate who is organized, dependable, and eager to learn the transportation industry.

Position Summary

The Dispatcher will report directly to Jim Wall, President of 256 Trucking LLC, and will initially help dispatch one flatbed trailer and two Landoll trailers. As the company grows and the dispatcher gains experience, additional responsibilities may be added.

This role will be responsible for booking freight, negotiating rates, communicating with drivers, tracking loads, working with customers and brokers, coordinating permits, entering load details, gathering paperwork, and helping keep trucks moving safely and profitably.

Responsibilities

  • Dispatch flatbed and Landoll freight
  • Book freight through load boards, brokers, and customer contacts
  • Negotiate rates with training and feedback from management
  • Communicate clearly with drivers, customers, brokers, and internal staff
  • Track active loads from pickup through delivery
  • Update customers and brokers on load status
  • Enter and maintain accurate load information
  • Review and process rate confirmations
  • Gather PODs, BOLs, and other load documents
  • Assist with sending paperwork for billing and invoicing
  • Coordinate oversize and overweight permits through permit portals
  • Monitor driver status and truck movement through the ELD portal
  • Use company tools including load boards, Google Sheets, permit portals, ELD portals, and our in-house quoting calculator
  • Help identify freight opportunities that fit company equipment and lane goals
  • Handle scheduling changes, delays, and problems professionally
  • Maintain strong communication and organization throughout the workday
  • Assist with other operations-related duties as the company grows

Qualifications

  • Trucking, logistics, dispatch, brokerage, or transportation experience preferred
  • Experience with flatbed, Landoll, equipment hauling, oversize, or overweight freight is a plus
  • Willing to train the right candidate
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Additional education in logistics, transportation, business, or a related field is a plus
  • Experience using load boards is preferred
  • Experience with Google Sheets or similar spreadsheet tools preferred
  • QuickBooks experience is a plus
  • Experience with permit portals or ELD systems is a plus
  • Strong computer and phone skills required
  • Must be able to work in office Monday through Friday in Huntsville, Alabama

Work Schedule

This is a full-time, in-office position based in Huntsville, Alabama.

The normal schedule is Monday through Friday, with occasional after-hours calls, weekend availability, or schedule adjustments required when trucks are moving or customer needs arise.

  • Is unwilling to occasionally answer calls or assist after normal business hours when needed

Pay: $40,000.00 - $56,000.00 per year
