The Dispatcher is responsible for coordinating communication between drivers and operations to ensure efficient service delivery. This role manages incoming service requests, schedules routes, resolves route and service issues, and completes daily routing, dump, and crew data entry. The Dispatcher also distributes critical operational information to driver teams throughout the day.
Maintain communication between drivers and dispatch, directing drivers to service calls based on customer needs, driver location, load capacity, and operational priorities.
Assign routes and service tickets to drivers during the day and schedule assignments for the following day; close service tickets daily.
Plan, distribute, monitor, and follow up on route assignments for residential, roll-off, and commercial drivers to ensure service meets company standards and agreements.
Troubleshoot and resolve delivery and pick-up issues before they result in service disruptions. Communicate effectively with drivers, customers, and internal teams to ensure customer satisfaction.
Respond to incoming calls from Customer Service and provide route updates or follow-up information as needed.
Work closely with the Customer Service Manager, Operations Manager, and drivers to ensure timely resolution of issues.
Coordinate with maintenance shop personnel and serve as an emergency point of contact for drivers when needed.
Review route paperwork, enter customer information into databases, and close work orders from previous routes while identifying and correcting discrepancies.
Maintain operational data in company systems by:
Verifying and entering dump tickets
Closing tickets and documenting notes
Entering driver, truck, and route information
Recording crew activity and providing updates to supervisors
Print, review, and correct productivity reports for route supervisors daily.
Manage driver communication devices, including distributing radios/phones, performing software updates, and charging devices nightly.
Assist with administrative support tasks such as uniform tracking, driver timecard review, fuel ticket reconciliation, and PPE inventory management.
Ensure necessary operational forms and supplies are available and prepare work schedules for Saturday operations.
Participate in company-sponsored training programs as required.
Stay up to date with operational technology used by the company.
Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.
This position is primarily based in an office setting within a waste operations facility.
Requirements:High school diploma or G.E.D. required, with a minimum of 6 months of related work experience.
Experience in the waste management, transportation, or logistics industry is preferred.
Previous customer service experience, particularly in a call center environment, is preferred.
Strong telephone and two-way radio communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally and courteously with internal teams and external customers.
Proficiency with computer systems, including Microsoft Office, along with strong typing and data entry skills.
Ability to perform effectively under pressure while maintaining professionalism and respect toward others.
Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify issues and resolve them in a timely manner.
Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks, plan work activities, and manage time effectively.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
