Distribution Operations Integration Manager

The Manager, Distribution Operations Integration evaluates, develops, and deploys technology, hardware, and software solutions to enhance the distribution model. This role serves as the primary vendor liaison, validates capabilities, ensures compliance with company standards, and leads implementation through go-live. Upon deployment, the Manager transitions solutions to sustainment with complete documentation and support deliverables. In partnership with Distribution Operations and IT, this leader drives scalable improvements across the DC network.

Essential Job Functions

Identify, evaluate, and lead the development of new technology for greenfield and brownfield distribution sites, including but not limited to AS/RS systems, VLM systems, AGV systems, and manual solutions.

Partner with Distribution Operations and the Corporate Real Estate team to ensure successful handoff from facility construction to operational Go-Live, including process flow diagrams, data requirements, storage media needs, WMS configurations (e.g., Manhattan Associates or equivalent WMS platforms), and deployment of slotting software such as Optricity.

Serve as the initial point of contact for new automation and technology vendors; validate capabilities and ensure all developed solutions are compliant with O’Reilly standards in partnership with IT.

Lead the full project lifecycle — from requirements gathering through deployment — and produce comprehensive sustainment documentation (runbooks, training materials, SOPs) for handoff to the operational support team at project close.

Elicit complex business requirements using interviews, document analysis, workshops, and workflow analysis; express requirements in terms of target user roles and goals.

Document “as is” and “to be” process flows; describe changes required to migrate to future-state capabilities and accurately record the scope of change required.

Serve as liaison between O’Reilly and automation/technology vendors for all developed solutions post-implementation.

Perform research and analysis to support distribution objectives, including:

Cost/benefit analyses to support system enhancements and process improvements

Reports and performance measurement in productivity, inventory accuracy, and vendor compliance

Communicate the actions needed to implement strategy and business plans within the team; explain the relationship to the broader organization’s mission, vision, and values; motivate people to achieve local business goals.

Develop and/or deliver budget plans with guidance from senior colleagues; monitor performance and behaviors within area of responsibility to ensure compliance with organizational policies and regulatory codes.

Use the organization’s formal development framework to identify individual development needs; plan and implement capability-building actions; provide coaching to direct reports and others across the organization.

Travel as needed — up to 50% — to support distribution objectives, automation implementations, and configurations.

SKILLS/EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Required:

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Logistics, Operations, Project Management, or equivalent experience in related areas. Master’s Degree or equivalent preferred Minimum 5 years of experience in distribution center operations; 6–10 years of comprehensive experience preferred

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; ability to create and run queries and interact with various database interfaces and query languages.

Experience with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS); hands-on familiarity with WMS configuration, reporting, and operational workflows is strongly preferred (e.g., Manhattan Associates or equivalent platforms).

Experience with distribution slotting software; familiarity with Optricity or similar tools to support slot optimization and storage media planning is strongly preferred.

Understanding of business context, needs, rules, and architecture, as well as organizational structure, cultures, capabilities, and processes; ability to document current-state processes.

Ability to monitor, diagnose, and resolve problems with technology products in a distribution center environment.

Ability to develop effective change strategies based on gap analyses and enterprise readiness assessments, including transition states and release plans.

Skilled in conducting gap analysis between current and future states to inform the overall change strategy.

Ability to design, execute, and report on systems/service tests to ensure applications function as specified in requirements.

Proficient in utilizing appropriate modeling tools to diagram requirements from data and state changes, process improvements, and use cases.

Skilled in leading facilitated sessions for requirements elicitation, focus groups, and user acceptance testing.

Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to effectively communicate at all levels of the organization as well as with external vendors and suppliers.

Ability to manage multiple time-sensitive projects concurrently.
